PEOPLE ARE TALKING:
"For those who have said that they don't write songs like they used to, Bob Levy proves them wrong. Bob's songs are timeless and not topical. They harken back to the classical Great American Songbook, when melodies were strong and the lyrics caressed the notes instead of squashing them like so many contemporary song lyrics do. His themes are timeless too and his songs are satisfying to sing. They swing lightly and my musicians like playing them and they appreciate the jazzy chord changes. The songs are strong enough so that there is not much need to over-interpret or over sing. I just enjoy the ride like I would a great Ellington song. I was drawn to the lyrics of these songs. There's some nice depth to both songs that I recorded, but they don't get sappy or sentimental. Most songwriters today are knocking us over the head with syllables. Bob's songs have none of this harshness. They are sweet and simple but not simple-minded. I love the lyrics from top to bottom. I love the music, how the words sit on the notes. His songs are classic and understated. Absolutely memorable!"
DANE VANNATTER, Boston, MA

Bob Levy's new CD "ME & MY BEST FRIENDS" on SRM Records
The 2009 JPF Award Nominations were announced today. ‘Just Plain Folks’ is an International Music Organization and their Industry Awards are for songwriters, original songs and CD’s. My song “THAT'S WHAT YOU'LL GET FROM ME”, recorded by Perry Danos from my new CD “Me + My Best Friends” was one of 21 songs nominated in the Jazz Vocal category. Songs were submitted from 160 countries worldwide and less than 1/3 of 1% was nominated out of the 560,000 songs that were submitted. This is quite an honor! http://www.justplainfolks.org/

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING:
"Talented songwriter, Bob Levy, returns with another fine release of his original vocal numbers. Again performed by a crack Nashville unit led by veteran keyboardist, Jamey Whiting, the songs often return to a day when melody was king. Vocalists Perry Danos, Carolyn Martin, Dane Vanatter lend their talents to presenting a collection of 18 tunes that showcase a wider range of Levy's songwriting abilities.
Starting with Danos' smooth delivery on "Ever Since We Met" through Carolyn Martin's showstopping "Loving This Man" and the Brazilian-influenced title track, there are plenty of melodies that you'll find yourself humming along to. Cabaret jazz vocals, Broadway showtunes, flamenco ("You Can Say You're Sorry") pop ("Could This Be Love") and even bluesy rock ("One Reason") and country ("The Truth") are referenced with care. And again on this outing, the Nashville flavor shines through clearly, thanks to Whiting's Nashville pedigree and the professional sheen of the production. It is an appealing combination and one that fans of old-school songwriting will appreciate.
Throughout it all, Levy's lyrics stand as intelligent and sensitive and somewhat of a throwback to a time when lyrics told a story in an intelligible manner. Listening to the good singing, solid playing and pleasant songwriting from Levy and his friends makes for an enjoyable evening with friends indeed." Brad Walseth, JazzChicago.net
"So great to hear even more wonderful tunes from the pen of Bob Levy following the terrific 'Out In The Cold' CD! Bob has a talent for both the swinging and the sweet when it comes to his songs. These songs, paired with the outstanding vocals on 'Me & My Best Friends', make it downright intoxicating!" Julie Esposito, Jazz Vocalist
"I really appreciate receiving your CD - "Me & My Best Friends". I have been listening to it in my car here in Los Angeles. It's a really good collection of songs and the vocals are terrific! I especially like "That's What You'll Get From Me" and "What Are We Doing Here?".
Michael Kerker, ASCAP Director of Musical Theatre
"This CD is a wonderful example of the vast and excellent range of Bob Levy's writing styles. The vocals are top-notch and each song is a gem. Bob's lyrics and music perfectly blend together to create truly wonderful, entertaining songs. I cannot wait to sink my teeth into one of his tunes! Bravo!!"
Francesca Amari, Cabaret Vocalist
"(On 'ME + MY BEST FRIENDS") Bob Levy’s songs seem to radiate a “nice guy” feel... Many tracks are in the country music style with hearts that are on the sleeve or broken... The most countryish are the bestish. Though some songs are sprinkled with well-worn phrases...there are also examples of finely crafted lines. My favorite: “Fate’s just an old cliché songwriters all adore/Your life’s a Gershwin score you orchestrate, so why wait?”
Carolyn Martin plaintively sings three numbers... Half of the 18 tracks are sung by Perry Danos, who is a real asset with an attractive touch of sandpaper in his warm and fuzzy voice. On some of the tracks, he has a way of successfully defusing the sentimentality and adding a hip snap and crackle to the pop. He appeared on the previous Levy collection, Out in the Cold. Five other singers are on board, with one song apiece. One is cabaret artist Dane Vannatter (also on the prior CD) whose track is a smoothie and highlight: “Sooner Than Someday” (with co-writer Dennis Livingston and a different pianist, Jim Rice). A few other tracks feature writing collaborations: quite effective and polished is “This Time” with the writing partner du jour Karen Jacobsen doing the heartbreaking vocal."

"The songs of Bob Levy are a resource well worth mining when looking for good new material, and this festive celebration was as fine an introduction to his work as one could wish for. Sue Matsuki and Dane Vannatter co-hosted the proceedings with equal measures of affection and admiration, and they shared the singing honors with several other performers. To a man (or woman), all of the artists did commendable work, with Laurie Krauz knocking it out of the ballpark with her three numbers."

Bob Levy, Silk River Music, is a member of The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) in New York, the Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs (MAC) and The Boston Association of Cabaret Artists (BACA). Bob is a 2008 MAC Award nominee for Outstanding Song Of The Year and an Award winning, Multi Published and Recorded Songwriter and Lyricist. Out In the Cold is his first jazz CD after more than ten years of writing country songs for many Nashville artists. Bob went back to his jazz roots for this exciting CD of "New Jazz Standards" that evokes memories of Frank Sinatra and Mel Torme classics. Rich ballads, romantic bossa novas and swing. Bob Levy's songs are performed by the wonderful new jazz vocalist, Perry Danos. "Perry Danos is the perfect blend of Harry Connick, Jr., Tony Bennett and Michael Buble. His warm, rich voice and natural delivery goes right to the heart of a jazz song. Perry's style and interpretation are uniquely his own", says Levy. Joining Perry on this CD is Shelly Miller whose beautiful, silky voice is reminiscent of Grammy winner Norah Jones. Bob's special guest is the exceptionally talented Dane Vannatter, Back Stage Magazine's 2006 Bistro Award Winner and 2007 Nightlife Awards Finalist.
"Out In The Cold" is available at CDbaby and
