Raised on a diet of punk rock, classical music, Beatles and reggae, melodies and rhythms pounded relentlessly in Bob Lydecker's head since he can remember. It wasn't until middle school, however, that Bob decided that music would be the focus of his life (prior to that he had wanted to become a visual artist). With a basic understanding of musical theory from singing in church choir and taking percussion lessons in school, Bob began writing music, teaching himself every style he could think of by downloading MIDI files and opening them in a pathetically basic sequencer that had come with the family computer. This allowed Bob to scrutinize each note, deciphering it like it was a code.
In general, Bob was resistant to too much formal training and instead played high-octane drums in punk bands throughout his teenage years. It wasn't until he attended a summer workshop at Carnegie Mellon University's Precollege Division that a passion for writing developmental music for orchestral instruments suddenly nipped Bob on the seat of his pants. From here Bob went on to study classical and avant-garde composition at the University of Southern California, all the while retaining his love of rock and roll, Jamaican music, etc. and searching for ways to fuse it all.
Over the past few years Bob has found an increasing number of opportunities creating music for films. When creating scores, Bob tends to have a light touch. A recent trend in Bob's scores is to sample and manipulate actual sounds from the film (foley, dialogue, etc.) and use these as the basis for his instrumental palette; the goal being to more subtly weave his scores into the fabric of the film. Other exciting opportunities include interning for an episode of "Lost" where he was able to conduct and prepare scores for several cues and assisting at the Manhattan Producers Alliance. Within the past few months Bob had begun helping out composer Mark Isham at his studio outside of Los Angeles.
Bob holds a B.M. summa cum laude in Composition and a Professional Certificate in Scoring for Motion Pictures and Television. Both degrees are from the University of Southern California.
Bob is always looking for ways to do something that is unique, direct and evocative.
Most importantly Bob hopes to bring positive vibrations to the world through his music!

thanks, brother, for all of the Backyard Memories. fantastic song! i swear you keep getting better (if that's possible!) and you are definitely developing a "sound," although you are still quite adaptable/eclectic/diverse (i can't think of the word. )
