Los Angeles Lakers basketball (more of an obsession than an “interest” at this point, unfortunately), radio comedy (especially The Goon Show, Phil Hendrie, Scharpling and Wurster, and the Ricky Gervais X-FM programs), God and country.

Television
The Rockford Files, Deadwood, The Sweeney, Barney Miller, Bakersfield P.D., Harry O., The Phil Silvers Show, Dragnet ’67-‘70 (because I judge weed by the company it keeps), Life on Mars, Moonlighting, Richie Brockelman Private Eye (yes, all five episodes), Magnum P.I., Get a Life, The Bob Newhart Show, Buffalo Bill, Black Books, The Larry Sanders Show, Yes Minister, Yes Prime Minister, Mystery Science Theater 3000, Mr. Show, The Kids in The Hall, Hot Seat with Wally George, Kojak, Hogan’s Heroes, The White Shadow, What’s Happening, The Prisoner, Sledgehammer, Three’s Company (I enjoy very dry, subtle humor), The League of Gentlemen, The Lawrence Welk Show.
Books
I’m ashamed to say I don’t read as much fiction as I should aside from a lot of hardboiled stuff like Raymond Chandler (my first, last and everything), Ross Macdonald, George V. Higgins, Jim Thompson, James Crumley, Charles Portis, Peter Dexter, Elmore Leonard, Charles Willeford, Walter Tevis, Lionel White, and George Pelecanos. I do read lots of music, bios and entertainment volumes. Favorites include the usual suspects like Nick Tosches and Richard Meltzer as well as Brit music critics like Nick Kent, David Cavanagh, Jon Savage and Keith Cameron. Also, David Thompson, Robert Polito, Robert Gordon, Jimmy McDonough, Joe Queenan, Stanley Booth, Peter Guralnick, and California historians Carey McWilliams, Reyner Banham, and Marc Reisner.
Heroes
Vin Scully, Brent Babb, Raymond Chandler, Don Rich, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Derek Erdman, John Facenda, Paul Mooney, Jack Oblivian and Tommy Stinson.

About me: Finally deciding to jump on My Space midway through 2007. Very cutting edge, I know.
I guess I would have to say I'm a professional journalist and music critic (though some would argue with that assessment).
Since late 2006 I've been the music writer for the Scripps-owned daily paper in Memphis, The Commercial Appeal. I'm also a regular contributor to SPIN, MOJO magazine in the U.K. and German Rolling Stone. I've previously been a writer/editor for the Chicago Reader, Village Voice Media in Seattle and the New Times' flagship paper in Phoenix.
I've done liner notes for a bunch of different CDs, including Water Records' reissue of Fred Neil's self-titled 1967 Capitol album, and a long essay for Rhino's forthcoming expanded edition of The Replacements' Tim. I'm in the early stages with a couple bigger projects as well.
I'm also working on my low post moves.
Who I'd like to meet: Al Davis, Don Rickles, Bob Dylan, David Milch, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Karl Pilkington, the surviving members of the Peckinpah stock company (L.Q. Jones, R.G. Armstrong, etc.), Ron Wood, James Garner and 'Funky' Donnie Fritts, a.k.a. The Alabama Leaning Man (so cool, he needs two nicknames).

I'm playing a game called Let's-See-What-Bob's-Favorite-Bands-Are-And-Then-Check-Them-Out-Because-They're-Probably-Good. It's a really hard game to explain. Title isn't very descriptive.
