Thanks for viewing my art. I live in Brookline Vermont with my beautiful muse, partner, art instructor, wife, friend, and all around great person, Dee. We share the house with her son David and my son Cameron. We also enjoy the company of our beloved pack, consisting of our Lab Chance and a Northern Chiauha (Ithink that is spelled right) Tootsie, as well as beautiful Siamese cat named Molly.
I am a non starving artist that moonlights as a nurse (thats the non starving part). I paint in watercolors and acrylics but will be trying oils very soon. My art leans toward the realist side but I try to stay fresh and paint for the image, not for what is really there. I push and pull reality until I have what I am looking for.
I focus on cityscapes, as well as working machines in all their rusty weathered glory. Lately I have become interested in painting the north Atlantic commercial fishing fleet. Dee and I make many trips to picturesque costal fishing villages to collect reference material for paintings. I am trying to capture the brutal life that is commercial fishing on the north Atlantic. I have no interest in painting white shiny pleasure craft. I want the signs of a years of harsh work in a brutal environment to be clearly visable in my images. A painting begins as a series of photographic references, as well as mental notes of colors and views that often dont appear in the photo's. I sit down with several images and blend the elements of each one to come up with what will ultimately be the finished piece.
You will note the custom guitars on this page that are also done by me. Although these are real working guitars and I play them quite frequently, I really consider them a part of my art. They are truly multimedia collage on a functional canvas. I do these pieces as a break from the paintings, to keep me fresh and excited about my work. I do them with no real or imagined limits. I sometimes have a difficult time selling them because I like to play each one.
I can be commisioned to do both paintings or guitars. I dont take commisions if I don't have a little love for the subject. I am honest with the potential customer if I feel I can't do a piece justice.
The guitars are priced ala carte, meaning that you can send me just the body of the guitar and I can just do the finish, or I can put together the whole guitar with your choice of components. Message me with your idea, most of the guitar work is probably considerably cheaper than you might think.
Thanks again for taking the time to view my work. comments and critiques are much appreciated.
Tim

Hey Timothy, Thanks so much! When I saw your marine paintings, I knew you'd relate to John's work. I love watercolors but have always painted in oil where highlights are last. When I try to do a watercolor, it makes my brain explode. Lol. :o) Nice meeting you! ~ K www.kathleenheger.com
