"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear." -Marcus Tullius Cicero
  • Music

Jazz...Jazz...Jazz. Not the stuff they call jazz nowadays. I mean jazz. Bill Evans, Miles Davis, Stan Getz, John Coltrane, Coleman Hawkins, Yusef Lateef, Charlie Parker. You know...jazz!......
  • Movies

I love the old movies. Humphrey Bogart, James Cagney, Alan Ladd. I enjoy the film noire of the forties and early fifties: "The Big Sleep," "Kiss of Death," "This Gun for Hire," or "Double Indemnity." I'm absolutely a sucker for a very romantic movie like "Brief Encounter," "A Man and a Woman," or "One Touch of Venus," or a great war movie like "The Longest Day," or "Blackhawk Down."
  • Television

I do not watch television. Not at all. Not for a moment. I like my brain too much.
  • Books

There are far too many to properly list. Here's a few: "Anna Karnina," "Lady Chatterly's Lover," "A Spy in the House of Love," "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy," "Citizen Soldiers," Shelby Foote's Civil War trilogy, "At Dawn We Slept," Anais Nin's diary, "For Whom the Bell Tolls," Poe, Kipling and Conan Doyle, Shakespeare's sonnets, any word written by Shelley, Byron and Keats...
  • Heroes

My daughter Cathy, a true inspiration to all who know her, who overcame a rare blood disease to become an outstanding college athlete, a marathon competitor, an extremely accomplished classical pianist and a wonderful mother. MakeYourSpace.com - Image Uploader

Free Music I am a writer specializing in Military History and, in particular, World War II. I daresay there are few people who know all aspects of the war better than I. I am also an artist. I render World War II fighter planes in pencil in photographic realism. I will post some of my pictures on the site in due course. As a historian, I must admit that I have a preference for the music, books, movies and romanticism of bygone ages. Oftentimes it's been said that I am a reincarnate from the thirties or forties. I have expressed the desire on numerous occasions, to leave this ridiculous age of shallowness and materialism, for one that is more ameniable to my nature. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ..

Who I'd like to meet:

I would like to meet creative people, particularly in the art and literary field, but creative people all the same. Years ago I belonged to a small group of writers, artists, composers, singers and dancers, who met weekly to discuss our work and to encourage each other. I miss that group terribly. I would like to chat with women who are intelligent and creative, regardless of the way they express themselves. It would be particularly enjoyable for me if they happen to be people of substance and sincerity. All ages are most welcome, but I would especially like to meet women of my own age. Of all the beautiful ladies I've seen in my life, very few have been as beautiful as the glorious P51 Mustang, the WWII fighter the pilots called "The Cadillac of the Air." Don't believe me?
