Starting out in the early eighties as Vancouver's prominent all-female band Bolero Lava made a name for themselves with their upbeat original songs and wildly entertaining live shows. Their two discs, MuchMusic video play, and cross-country tours put them in the spotlight across Canada. Memorable live shows included producing their own multi-media events, headlining for Amnesty International, as well as billing with successful, international artists such as The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Taj Mahal and FishBone. The group was managed by Gangland (54-40, Sons of Freedom, Mae Moore) and they released their material under Lava Rock Records.
The original line up, together from 1983 to 1988, included Vanessa Richards, Lorraine Tetrault, Phaedra Struss, Barbara Bernath, and Laurel Thackeray.

After Barbara and Laurel left the band to pursue other interests, Linda McRae (Spirit of the West) and Andy Graffiti joined the fold for about a year (1988). Then the remaining members hired Sarah McLachlan's talented rhythm section featuring Jeff Sawatzky on bass and Sherri Leigh on drums. Sherri was replaced shortly thereafter by Mallory Temple. The group disbanded in 1991.
These recordings are from that second incarnation of Bolero Lava, 1989 to 1991. Music from the discs of the original line-up will be posted here soon.
Enjoy these recordings and pics. If anyone out there might have some old photos or videos or any other type of memorabilia of Bolero Lava please drop me a note here.
Well, I keep HOPING we may do another show but, at the moment there is nothing scheduled nor much interest from some corners of the band. But, ya never say never... Ill keep you posted
