The Shells, an unprecedented & completely original pop/folk-rock harmony trio, tell soulful stories through the intricate harmonies & lyrics of their unique music. Based out of NYC, The Shells & their refreshingly talented band play renowned venues throughout NYC & across the country. Carrie Welling from Colorado Springs, CO, Melanie Klaja from Buffalo, NY & Jessi Rae Waltz from Nashville, TN were strangers to each other when they moved to New York City in 2005. Settling into day jobs, school and tiny apartments with many roommates they began seeking an outlet for their desire to write and perform music. Fate, wine, like minded conversation and the nightlife of the Big Apple brought them together and THE SHELLS were born! They perform original acoustic-based music in a style that can be described as a modern day Crosby, Stills and Nash meets Indigo Girls meets an urban Dixie Chicks. Often compared to groups such as Wilson Phillips, The Cranberries & Simon & Garfunkel, their harmonies are intricate, dynamic and sweet. The Shells write songs that are emotional, honest and deeply personal. Each member adds her own distinct style & unique talent that when combined with the powerful creativity and inspiration drawn from their worlds, they create thrilling expressions of their inner selves thereby reaching a diverse range of audiences in all walks of life.
