its been 5 yrs since i turned a wrench w/ the flyboys out in balad, iraq...just had my 32 bday here at home & it was on the morning of my 27th i flew outta that shithole, landing in frankfurt, germany for a 3 day layover. nice! spent my bday at my favorite rote haus on the corner of elbestraussa & taunesstrassa. the mortars fell where you ate, slept & worked everyday but i didn't see any real crazy shit.

been doin the air guard. spent 2 yrs on that border patrol mission, both in san diego & out in the hell of el centro & i fought the telegraph fires in nor cal w/ some guys from my unit. just got back from 7 months bendin wrenches out at nellis air base, vegas...the other desert. ; )

i'll check it out & thanks.

now available for pre-order thru paypal ($5 plus S/H)...j. michael niotta's chapbook, "the devil's doin the same damn thing he's always done.'

noir, bars, women & cars - from vegas to dago, the brothels of germany to doha, kuwait: a wild & gritty collection of 17 cuts: pomes & prose, plus 3 excerpts from the novel, ‘the ants, thirsty,’ all from the former editor/columnist of 86…the man who put "hard fic" on the streets…the hardcore referee/translator/negotiator you’d hire when sitting bookended in a bar between nick tosches & chuck palahniuk.

"look, the stuff is good. quite good. straight up - like a good half-glass of whiskey."
—dan fante, author of ‘mooch,’ ‘spitting off tall buildings,’ ‘kissed by a fat waitress,’ & ‘a gin pissing raw meat dual carburetor v-8 son of a bitch from los angeles.’

Hi Mike, how've you been? I read your latest blog, I am glad you are never afraid to talk about any subject. What happened at Fort Hood feels almost impossible to talk about, or even think about. The way you bounced from subject to subject reminded me of flipping tv channels, which is probably what you were aiming for. It's a rather surreal feeling sometimes to do that, and jump from horror to baseball to whatever. It seems like the American way, though.

    Keep on keeping on.
    Peace,
    Lara

Six hundred soldiers we sail through the night

Cold winds and rain, keeping the next man in sight

Hitting the beach, shells and bullets burst in glair

Praying to god that I’m going to make it up there

Running for the tree line, friends falling away

Glad to hear you rocked New York for Halloween, and absolutely, get yourself out to Hollywood, we'll hit some low dives I'm particularly fond of (if you're still in Manhattan, try Rudy's Bar & Grill on 44th & 8th - you'll think it's STILL Halloween). Stay in touch....
