Take the best of the music legend’s last three albums, add some exclusive, sought-after tracks, and mix in a few new, tasty surprises, and you have a more-than-generous sonic feast ala T-Bone. The diverse eighteen-track menu, which draws from T-Bone’s two Grammy-nominated albums, The Last Street Preacha (2001) and Bone-A-Fide (2006), as well as Gospelalphamegafunkyboogiediscomusic, will satisfy the largest of fan appetites—and all “taste-buds,” with its exotic and experimental influences ranging from Latin, Arabic, Indian, Caribbean, and even Gypsy sounds.

The heart behind Bone-Appetit! Servin’ up tha Hits! was to “capture the best of the last six years for fans,” says T-Bone. As the ninth album in the music pioneer’s fifteen-year recording career, it also represents a rich journey of growth through “struggles and triumphs, and good and bad times.” One of the definite highlights of these years was his standout performances in the 2003 feature film and soundtrack The Fighting Temptations (w/ Beyonce and Cuba Gooding, Jr.).

Of all the tracks on the album, the “chef’s favorite" is the new Latin/Caribbean-flavored dance gem, “Sing Your Praises” (feat. Natalie LaRue and Mark Stuart of Audio Adrenaline), which is exclusively available in both English and Spanish on Bone-Appetit! Another song that is not available on a previous album is the fan favorite, “Raised in Harlem” from Hero: The Rock Opera. T-Bone shows the fun side of his lyrical brilliance on the comical “Pentecostal Horse Racing,” as well as on the Christian artist-based new song, “Name Droppin” (feat. Eric Dawkins). If that’s not enough to fill you up, for dessert he serves up a scoop of “King Of My Life” (feat. Natalie LaRue)—another fan favorite not available on any previous T-Bone release.

Aficionado’s will also “eat up” the carefully selected spread of hits on this Best Of. “Ride Wit’ Me,” “Wipe Your Tears,” and “Turn This Up” were picked from The Last Street Preacha (2000), and Gospelalphamegafunkyboogiediscomusic (2002) contributed “Dippin’,” “Blazin’ Mics,” and “Gospelalphamegafunkyboogiediscomusic.” The club banger, “Follow T,” “Let That Thang Go,” as well as, “Can I Live?” “A Few Good Men” (produced by Fredwreck, Dr. Dre’s right-hand man), and “Shake Ya Body” made the cut from T-Bone’s favorite of the three albums, Bone-A-Fide (2005). An additional treat is the brand new remix version of Bone-A-Fide’s epically melodic “I Been Looking Around” (feat. Rachel Lampa).

T-Bone’s latest music video, “Can I Live,” features Leila Ali, an undefeated world champion female boxer and the youngest daughter of sports legend Muhammad Ali, who starred in the 2007 Summer season of Dancing with the Stars. He also starred with Leila Ali in his second movie to date, All You’ve Got, which premiered on MTV in 2006. The movie featured a number of his songs including “Follow T.”

As with the four albums before, T-Bone expertly recorded The Last Street Preacha and Gospelalphamegafunkyboogiediscomusic on his own, but for the recording of Bone-A-Fide he took it to the next level by teaming up with the legendary Louis “Buster” Brown, who has produced multiple platinum-plus projects by the likes of Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams, and God’s Property (which, combined, exceed 15 million units sold).

T-Bone has come along way from the Mission District of Northern California, where he was born and raised by his father and mother, who are from Nicaragua and El Salvador, respectively. It was in these ghetto surroundings that he experienced the beginnings of hip hop, and grew up listening to KRS-One, Public Enemy and LL Cool J, and then the West Coast rap that started to rise up with N.W.A and 2Pac.

He lived what these artists were rapping about: “I was amongst the gangs, drug dealers and pimps. I was left for dead. I had fifteen gang members break into my spot at three in the morning and try to kill me. I know what it's like to have a gun drawn on me, what it's like to deal some stuff and to jump folks.”

The turning point in his life came when his friend Ralphie was shot to death in a drive-by, and his last words were to tell everyone to wear red at his funeral. T-Bone found himself asking: “What did he die for … this ignorant color?!” and he decided to change his life. His parents were pastors at the time, so he knew about the things of God.

T-Bone explains the transformation: “There's a scripture that says, ‘From the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.’ Once I was filled with anger and madness. Now I'm full of love, peace and joy. Hip hop is the language of the streets. God is the language of love. I mix the two together to see amazing results take place!”

Since being first signed in 1991 to California-based Metro One (of Crystal Lewis fame)—thanks to an impressive impromptu rap he left on the label’s answering machine—the West Coast hip hop veteran has worked hard to get where he is today, including up to 250 shows a year! He has performed alongside top artists from Kirk Franklin to Yolanda Adams, and hosts two TV music programs: "TX-10" (Dish Network) and "Real Videos" (TBN).

If Bone-Appetit! Servin’ up tha hits! is what T-Bone has to show for the last six years, fans should be licking their lips in anticipation of what is to come. “My plan for the future is to continue to use all the gifts and talents God has given me and do more movies, more music, and more books.” The tireless creative is currently writing an expose of the life stories of top gang leaders called “From Gangs to Grace,” which he hopes will serve as a discouragement to youth enticed by the glamorized lifestyle.
