For 2009, Bongo Beat celebrates 14 years of operation as a label dedicated to great music, new sounds and new visions - curated under the ever eclectic eye of label founder Ralph Alfonso, who originally started Bongo Beat to showcase his jazz/garage rock combo.
An industry veteran (Warner, EMI, Attic, Nettwerk) as well as a performer / photographer / writer / designer, Ralph encourages his artists to set higher standards - reflected in both the music and distinctive packaging. Kevin Komoda (DJ / performer / engineer / producer / etc) is working national promo, retail, and tour press. A team of dedicated indie promo and retail folks are also there to help us per project.
As the music industry continues to implode, we continue to release quality music. If you like what we do, please spread the word. There is a lot of hype out there but ultimately it is all about trust and friendships. Maybe we're old fashioned and idealistic about these things, but we think what we release will still hold its own years from now when it's discovered somewhere and people come looking for us at the old folks home. But we can't do it alone.
Internationally, Bongo Beat is distributed in CANADA by Outside Music, USA by Burnside, UK by Proper, SPAIN by Dock (limited selection), and in Germany, we are distributed by New Music. Sonic Rendezvous Holland carries some titles also. More coming soon. All Bongo Beat cds are available on AMAZON sites worldwide. It's such a grey area with all these third party importer/exporters, sometimes we have no real control over how or why our cds end up where they do, but right now the Export Department at Burnside Distribution has created partnerships with various foreign distributors (including Australia!) so you will see some of our titles start to sprout up like happy flowers in cool shops in countries we've always dreamed of visiting.
And yeah, we do individual licensing deals, for example, CR Avery's cd has been released in France by Platinum Records and Kevin Kane's cd is released on Sandfish Records Japan.
If you are a record shop or similar retail and would like to purchase cds directly from us, we can do this and we can negotiate a great deal, but we cannot do consignment unless you are a Montreal store or Ralph knows you cause you guys partied in the 80s or something.
Music Supervisors scouring MySpace pages for sync ideas - we have lots of one-stop shop tracks (including Diodes and instrumental mixes and stuff not listed here)
WE ARE LOOKING FOR DIRECT DISTRIBUTION OPPORTUNITIES FOR:
Japan
France
Italy
Asia
