Influences
the great and sovereign state of Mississippi, homegrown hallucinogens, maryjane 420 potweedgrass, neil young, devo, the germans, iggy & the stooges, McCluen, punk, rock, beatles, and so much more... and, basically, being born before 1960.
Bonnington Truce was a southern pock combo. why? it was 1979 and punk was dying a slow and junked out fucked up death in london and new york and LA, but in the state of mississippi nobody even saw it coming. we didn’t see it coming either; we stepped in it, then we rolled around in it until we smelled like it. we were never "it." "it" was already over, already dead. we were something that grew out of what we could scrape off our shoes.

Bonnington Truce Trailer
Bonnington Truce: An Alternative History Of Mississippi is a
documentary film that explores the late ’70s music and antics of an
undiscovered band from the deep south. Bonnington Truce consisted of
five creative individuals, composing, recording and performing original
’Pock’ music in the heat and humidity of southern Mississippi.
The film features an all-original music score with rare studio and live
performance footage, in addition to a massive collection of original
photos, posters and artwork created by the band. A host of fans and
foes give us a glimpse into the personalities that came together to
create some of the most unusual music in such an unlikely place.
See why so many of America’s most intolerable critics and heavy duty
beerdrinkers dig this secret Southern ‘Pock’ Combo that hails from the
deepest backwoods of Mississippi. Bonnington Truce is the smartest,
silliest, independent kickass rock & roll band in the world.
Filmed on location in New York, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee,
Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Florida, Texas, California, and
Madrid, Spain.
Produced, directed and edited by Perry Trest
Executive Producer: B. L. Young
Producers: Jeff Bridges, Dick Ford, Earl Lundy, Hugh O’Neil, Patrick Wallace
In New York, they had the New York Dolls.
In Athens, they had R.E.M.
In Los Angeles they had Black Flag.
In Hattiesburg, Mississippi, they had...Bonnington
Truce.
In 1979, Mississippi was getting ready to vote for
Ronald Reagan. At the same time, a few guys got together
and decided they were going to form a band.
But not a Lynyrd Skynyrd cover band, or a Top 40 band to
play the frat houses and bars. Their band. With their
music.
"Bonnington Truce: An Alternative History of
Mississippi" is a rollercoaster ride through a certain
time and place a little sideways from where most people
go.
It’s a story of how a band came to be (and not to be) in
the middle of a small sleepy town in Mississippi, in the
most unexpected way possible, making the most unexpected
music they could, and the unexpected results. It’s also
about five friends getting reacquainted, 25 years later.
It’s about people being themselves in a place that had
trouble allowing that. It’s a shaggy dog tale with as
many lies as truth. But it all really happened, at least
as much as we can remember.
And it’s also about how you don’t have to be a superstar
to rock and roll.
No apologies, no regrets. But there is fried chicken.
