Whether it's bringing back memories for a lawyer in Brooklyn of summers spent on Coney Island bodysurfing, or it's reminding a world-class surfer of a wave he was glad to have escaped unscathed, my goal with photography is the same. Convey the connection between us and the ocean. As a photographer, I continued to be intrigued by my primary subject matter every time we click. How is it that the same force of nature can redesign coastlines, yet an infant can push her little hand through it? The draw of such pure, raw energy that expends into the sand for a moment, which took days of traveling in the open ocean to make happen, holds endless intrigue. The ocean and the movement therein is as familiar to me as my feet, yet when I look at my own photos there is something new and spellbinding every time I take another look. It almost seems contradictory, or circular at best, that the questions oceanic photography answers for a moment has me asking more questions, only to find that the answer is: take better and better and better pictures. What wakes me up before the sun does and what may ultimately connect us with the ocean is simply this: what will happen next?
