Damn, this song rocks. This JAMS. "Let The Beat Hit 'Em" (1991) by LISA LISA & THE CULT JAM.
The most recorded drummer in history: Mr. BERNARD PURDIE. Everybody learned from this cat. This clip is from a recent teaching gig. Nothing unnecessary, every note is straight down efficiency. THE GROOVE MASTER
Ah yes, CROWN HEIGHTS AFFAIR. Probably the most underappreciated band of the late 70s, early 80s New York disco era. "Love Ripoff" is from their 1982 album "Think Positive". NYC disco funk at its best.
Another one album band, TRILARK was formed by members of NYC disco outfit CROWN HEIGHTS AFFAIR who recorded their self-titled album in 1982. Since the vinyl album is practically unfindable these days, a CD of this rare album is available on eBay and it's nothing less than a monster. Check out songs like "Love You Up", "Check It Out" and this work out song "Sweat It Out"... "And one and two, and one and two... jumping jacks instead of snacks".
It could easily be a KASHIF song, this "Falling In Love" by SURFACE. Airy, smooth and the fat synths shine and glitter... The singer, Karen Copeland (R.I.P.), is out of this world... Such a lovely voice... Enjoy this beautiful gem...
Mad murderous 80s boogie and a very obscure song, "Danger Zone" (1983) by ROBBIE M.'s MIDNIGHT EXPRESS BAND. Although it was their only song, the band made a funny video for it, that was clearly inspired by Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video... nice.
Straight from Obama's Windy City, Chi-Town... Chicago ... "Party Lights" by FIRST LOVE, written and produced by DONALD BURNSIDE.
Oh, my youth... "Hi De Hi, Hi De Ho" (1982) by KOOL & THE GANG... fantastic bass, strings and just a wonderful song... "She don't love me no more, ooh, ooh, oohoohoo."
Tight drums, dope synths and a chorus that's simply off the hook - A TASTE OF HONEY bowed out in style with this fantastic boogie classic "Sayonara" from their last album "Ladies Of The Eighties" from 1982.
Perfection from beginning to end: CHERI's "No Communication" - Canadian 80s boogie bliss, written by GERALDINE HUNT.
Rimini, 1984. Sunshine, Italian girls and PINO D'ANGIO's "Okay Okay". All okay.
Little known outside Italy, Francesco Puccioni a.k.a. MIKE FRANCIS (1961-2009) was a unique singer, songwriter and musician with a style that's not easy to pinpoint. His soft voice and English lyrics - rare for an Italian singer - worked perfectly with the rhythmic, synths-driven music. In 1984, he released his debut album "Let's Not Talk About It" - these days a rare album to come by and easily one of the best albums of the 80s. Mike Francis passed away in Rome on January 30th. Farewell Francesco... Riposa in pace.
Fat 'n' infectious: THE O'JAYS "Put Our Heads Together" from 1983, written by KENI BURKE.
The fattest shit ever to come out of Holland: OATTES VAN SCHAIK and "Crimes Of Passion" from their only album "Love Attaxx" (1985). Keyboard wiz Bernard Oattes and singer/programmer Rob van Schaik made big waves in the U.S. and European dance charts in the mid-80s with "Say Yeah", "Miracles" and this track...
