In 2008 a talented group of mutual friends came together to form the alternative rock band Boom Boom Stereo. The band, who’s sound has been compared to The Used and Blink 182, writes and performs all their own original music. This four-piece band based in California’s Bay Area is comprised of guitarist and lead singer Adam Kelly, lead guitarist Mat Jackson, bassist Derek Jennings, and drummer Ron Cressio.
The idea of forming a band began when guitarist Mat Jackson and Boom Boom Stereo’s former drummer began having casual jam sessions and creating their own sound. It was at this point that Adam Kelly was introduced to the band. Adam, having been a musician most his life, offered his skills as both a singer and guitarist. The three began playing regularly and realized they still had one essential role to fill – a bassist. Adam recalled meeting “a guy who plays bass at a party once” and immediately contacted Derek Jennings. With the addition of Derek the band was complete, and Boom Boom Stereo was born.
The four hit it off on both a musical and personal level and, after a few months of practice, began booking shows regularly at local venues. With the release of their EP, continued regular performances, and an increasingly growing number of fans, Boom Boom Stereo seemed to be on the fast track to success. Their luck soon ran out however when an inner band conflict arose resulting in the loss of their drummer and forcing the remaining members of the band to take a brief hiatus and regroup before deciding to search for a new drummer.
Receiving a reply from an online ad they had posted, Adam, Mat, and Derek met with Boom Boom Stereo hopeful Ron Cressio. Between being raised by musicians and past experience with his own band, Ron surpassed the guys’ expectations and blew them away at their first jam session. Ron was warmly welcomed into the band, and Boom Boom Stereo was back in action.
Today Boom Boom Stereo is back in the Bay Area music circuit, playing to larger audiences each time. The band is hoping to soon expand out of the Bay Area and is currently working on their first full-length album with an expected release of early 2010.
