BOOM DAYS HERITAGE CELEBRATION 2008
ONE OF ALABAMA'S TOP TEN TOURIST EVENTS FOR THE MONTH OF SEPT.2008, designated by the Alabama Stae Board of Tourism
Boom Days Heritage Celebration is an annual festival celebrating the culture and traditional heritage of Fort Payne,Alabama. Fort Payne was founded in the late 1880's during the BOOM of the local iron and coal industry and later became known as the "Sock Capitol of the World". Lying in the foothills of the Southern Appalachian Mountains, the city has long been a crossroads of Southern to New England influences. Today BOOM DAYS expresses that heritage with a series of musical events held in three public venues, the 118 year old Fort Payne Opera House, The DeKalb Theatre, and the new Fort Payne City Auditorium and on September 20th at the height of the festival activity, there will be two additional music outdoor stages.
Over twenty national, regional, and local performers are showcased in all traditional and roots music gendres, from Gospel to Soul and Blues, from Country to Rock and Roll, and Traditional Fiddling and String Bands as well.
The Celebration peaks as the streets of downtown Fort Payne come alive on Saturday the 20th with food and craft vendors, an antique car show, kids events, music on two outdoor stages, and some of the South's Finest Artists and Craftsmen gather in the city park for an arts and crafts show with "live"demonstrations.
Artists such as the proclaimed national treasures, The Gee Bend Quilters, traditional potter Jerry Brown, visionary artist Micheal Finster, the Sloff Furnace exhibition from Birmingham, Tommy Moorehead and the Mighty Fine Assault Team, and many others will fill the park and halls of local exhibit spaces, such as the Fort Payne Depot Museum.
Performers in 2007 included Soul Superstar Percy Sledge in the keynote concert, national blues recording artists, The Beat Daddys, Micrwave Dave, Debbie Bond and Caroline Shines, Muscle Shoals Rock Legend Travis Wammack, Hill Country Bluesman, Richard Johnston and more. Performers for 2008 TBA SOON.
For a complete schedule, view the events section of this site which will be updated as the schedule and final list of performers and events are confirmed.
The picture section will feature scenes from last year's BOOM DAYS, along with images of upcoming events and artists.
The music player will feature rotating music from the various performers that have performed at Boom Days. As performers are announced for 2008, their music will be added to the music player.

HEY GUYS THANKS TO EVERYONE AT THE BOOM DAYS FESTIVAL FOR A GREAT TIME WE ENJOYED IT HOPE TO SEE YALL AGAIN! TAKE CARE JEFF,JORDAN,GEORGE,TOMMY AND THE BOPPER
you're welcome. two of those complaints were legit, i was being silly about the alcohol and the guy in the floppy hat. we had a great day, and it looks like everyone else there did also.
whoever's doing this page has the i.q. of retarded 2nd grader. the "do your own festival and then tell us how to do it" comment was priceless, thanks.
all i was trying to do was let you guys know of a few problems that you could easily fix before next year. ya'll have a great day, and i'll see ya next year!
i had a good time at boom days. the music was great, especially flint river boys, alabama gravy soppers, and the new brinkley brothers.
i do have a few complaints though...
1. a huge trash can in front of the city park stage partly blocked the view and kept folks from having a good spot to sit.
2. if i had not seen the new brinkley brothers performing on the street before their set i would have never known about where and when they were performing.
3. no alcohol! a very minor complaint i know. but some folks like a cold adult beverage to go with thier music.
4. there was this really annoying hippy walking around wearing a purple floppy hat. you guys allow these freaks to walk around and hand out acid flashbacks but you won't sell a thirsty redneck a cold beer :(
