Tan Kok Hui or better known as Boon, former drummer of Moxuan and ChongYang. He is currently drums for Furniture and occasionally appears for KLPHQ and The Maharajah Commission .
Boon Not Pop is an experimental electro-acoustic improvisation project and sometime features Fairuz Sulaiman on visuals.
Boon formed KlangMutationen, an improv jazz and noise outfit, with him on drums, Yeoh Yin Pin on guitar, Tham Kar Mun and Yong Yandsen on saxophones. He occasionally deejays "noise" sets at niche clubs in Kuala Lumpur.
Boon also a member of EMACM [Experimental Musicians and Artists Co-operative Malaysia], a collaborative project dedicated to the facilitation, publication and exposure of creative and experimental works from the region. They generally support works that have encountered difficulties through conventional channels. Current members of EMACM consist of artists, writers, composers, musicians and publishers.
Boon also a founder of lam'i-nal records and xing-wu records.
KlangMutationen - Session Zero [lam'i-nal records] [2006]
"Klangmutationen is obviously a German word -- Teutonic flatulence at its best. But it could also mean, admittedly of a strange logic (or illogic), a bunch of
devilishly handsome Ah Bengs from Klang interested in "Mutationen"
(that is Hokkien for metamorphosis Tetsuo or Ultra-man style).
If that bullshit was not helpful at all in convincing you to buy this release,
then these references might:
Khanate's Capture and Release, Masayoshi Urabe, Kaoru Abe, Alvin Lucier,
Masayuki Takayanagi, Naked City's L'eng T'che, the Blue Humans"

Boon Not Pop - Volume One [lam'i-nal records] [2006]
Studio In Cheras Kuala Lumpur (SiCKL) is a non-profit, artists-run private studio. It was founded in April 2006 on the faded trails of former studio space N'Desir in Maluri and the Monkee Studio in inner Cheras. From month to month SiCKL will push forward events that will not exactly fall into expected norms, whether these norms be popular, unpopular, rigid, experimental, fringe, inside or outside. SiCKL encourages and celebrates daring and irrepressibleworks in film, video, poetry, music, performance and visual arts.
