Ain’t That Far From Boothill cdmred379 Released 27/11/08. Fire up the Tardis. Back we go in time to 1983, when the streets of London are the preserve of dapper New Romantics, posing at Blitz, reading The Face and spending ozone frightening amounts on hair lacquer. Well, to be fair, London's Boothill Foot-Tappers got through a fair amount of hair lacquer too one of their three female singers was a professional hairdresser, after all but in every other way they were the antithesis of the 80s style over content ethos. Instead, the Boothills played hundreds of gigs, often in support of left wing causes, but were always tremendous fun rather than preachy. The music was famously described as Cow-Punk , and, alongside the Pogues, Men They Couldn’t Hang and a handful of others, they rejuvenated the live scene. Songs drew on traditional roots elements (banjo, fiddle, squeezebox) but injected the DIY/Anti-Authoritarian mindset of punk, leading to riotous live gigs and this, their sole album, which has been packaged with attendant singles and bonus tracks.... Love And Affection / Jealousy / Pride Takes A Fall / Nothing Ventured / Feelings / Sunday Evening / Get Your Feet Out Of My Shoes / Have You Got The Confidence For The Trick? / Stand Or Fall / What's The Matter? / There's No Way (I Can Leave You Alone) / Too Much Time / Bonus Tracks- Get Your Feet Out Of My Shoes (45 VERSION) / Milk Train / True Blues / People Get Ready / Chasing Women / Bringing In The Georgia Mail / A Bowl Of Porridge / Come See About Me / Too Much Time (7 Version) / How’s Jack? / Coloured Aristocracy / New River Train... ON THE ROAD... Band photo's taken by Andy"Jah Gummy"Keating...on tour all over the UK and I mean ALL! We played from Coleraine to Brighton, West Wales to Norwich and everywhere in between. It seemed like we only ever had Sundays off, then we were back on the bus Monday morning and on the road again. Dan and Kev up front with Jah Gummy, driving, and the rest in the back. The girls often had what we called "little snacks", Chris usually had a song in his pocket and always had a smile on his face. On our rare days off on the road, we often tried to take a day trip somewhere. The Heights Of Abraham in Derbyshire, Alton Towers, Lyme Regis, Loch Ness etc wherever we ended up, we always had a lot of fun... ...... ...... ...... ...... ...... ...... ...... ...... ...... ...... ...... ...... ...... ...... ...... ...... ...... ...... ...... ...... ...... ...... ...... ...... ...... ...... ...... ...... ...... ...... ...... ...... ...... .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. Boothill Foot Tappers released one album, "Aint That Far From Boothill" on Mercury/Phonogram Records. Prior to that the band were signed to Go! Discs, and released several singles on the then fledgling independant label, some of which won extensive airplay on BBC Radio One, Two and Three. Stablemates were Billy Bragg and The Housemartins, who went on to become The Beautiful South. The band did two sessions for the legendary John Peel, amongst several other radio sessions for the BBC and also several television appearances and lots of airplay on radio stations across the U.K. The band was an amazing live unit scoring many great reviews. In 1985 they won the dubious title of having done more gigs than any other band in the UK. The Boothill's album has recently been re-issued by Cherry Red and is available in all good record shops NOW! -
