Out of the swamps and Passaic River floods emerge the McMickle Brothers with a visceral sound that listeners describe as “Nirvana meets Neil Young and Diamond.”
Something special happens on-stage between Matt and Sam; beyond drums and guitar, beyond brothers. They lock in, without thought or discussion. Call it telepathy. They perform with transcendent energy and ease, like children playing air-guitar. With songwriting that evokes raw emotion and a sound that’s both modern and nostalgic, the brothers are carving an unflinching musical foothold in an increasingly disposable world.
After changing names and trying out different members, the brothers have returned, for the time being, to the two-man drum and guitar outfit they began six years ago. Despite their vision of a more “complete” band, a 2-piece is the only way they’ve been able to get it right thus far. It’s the way they taught themselves to play--the way they made sense of their instruments, before aspirations, when their first songs were born, in a damp, dark primordial basement.
