Borinquen Brass Quintet begins on August 2005 as a chamber music course at the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music. It was when a group of five friends decided to pursue a common goal: to create a brass quintet whose objectives weren't limited to the academic requirements, but rather functioned like a professional ensemble. Since its beginning, the Borinquen Brass Quintet has performed in cultural activities, television and radio promotions, Students Concert series, Departmental Concert series, and “Domingo en Familia” Concert series at the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music. Borinquen Brass Quintet has performed three recitals. The first one took place at the Center for the Performing Arts Ángel “Lito” Peña in Humacao, Puerto Rico on December 2005. The second and third recital took place at Jesús María Sanromá Hall at the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music on December 2006 and June 2007 respectively. The Borinquen Brass Quintet has performed the premiere in Puerto Rico for the works Quintet Op.65 by Jan Koetsier, Fire Dance by Anthony Dilorenzo, Concerto by Robert Delanoff, and the Introduction and Variations for Harp and Brass Quintet by Jan Koetsier, in which we are pleased to performed it with Elisa Torres, harpist. On April 2006 the Borinquen Brass Quintet won the third place in the first Chamber Music Competition at the Conservatory, performing the Sonatine by Eugene Bozza. The quintet has performed in master classes for Manny Laureano, Marty Erickson, and the Spanish Brass Luur Metalls. The Borinquen Brass Quintet is proud to be under the coaching of Roberto Ramírez, principal trumpet of the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra and member of the Quinteto Gabrieli, for the academic year 2006-2007. Actually three of the members are continuing studies at the Puerto Rico Conservatory while the other two are pursuing graduate studies in the United States.
