Born In Chinese serves to promote Asian Pacific American music and musicians. We write reviews, articles, interviews-- all about APA music. We also produced the first widely available Asian American music compilation, entitled Compilasian, which was released in March, 2007.
BORN IN CHINESE is a phrase I encountered several years ago. Uttered by someone in a fit of ignorance, it struck me as amusing, sad, and offensive all at the same time. But rather than be angered at those words, or simply laugh it off, I decided to use it to spread Asian American cultural awareness.
Thus, I formed this company: BORN IN CHINESE. I have hopes that one day no one will ever be so uninformed as to believe that having black hair and almond-shaped eyes means that I was born in a country called “Chinese.” The struggle continues... at least we now have some great music to accompany it.
