About We Were Born With Rocks In Our Hands
Charles Tyshkov and Brian Bond spent many a nights playing and writing music together since the very first of their teenage years...after a couple of bands and one acoustic album, the two formed the band We Were Born With Rocks In Our Hands with Chase Fein in the spring of 2002. Tim Oberleiton joined just a month or so later, to complete the group...

In the spring of 2003 the band released their first album, "The Mitten Symphony," a 7-song EP, recorded by Dominic Gallucci at Shed Records. Some shows were played, albums and t-shirts were sold. Only months later in the summer of 2003 the four began working on their next collection of recordings, which culminated in the 9-song, self-recorded and produced, self-titled album (referred to as "The Blue Album" because of its cover art). Shortly thereafter, the members dispersed because of the desire of some to attend university.

Since then the rehearsals have been rare and the shows even rarer. Yet, despite physical separation, the band has managed to continue writing and recording, sending emails with songs in lieu of words. In the summer of 2005 they wrote and recorded most of the as-of-yet unreleased "Come Forth As Gold." Six songs were finished by October 2005, at which point Brian left to spend some months abroad, halting the process until the summer of 2006. At that point the album saw some changes, including the decision to include outtakes and unrecorded material intended for the two previous albums. "Come Forth As Gold" is currently sitting on the shelf (although Brian has been revisiting it every once in a while to remix, etc.)

The band is currently finishing up a new and unnamed full-length album and doing their best to make sure it doesn't end up on the shelf.

"Be Here Now" Festival Scheduled for Starks, ME, August 14-16

Starks, Maine --  The hill at Harry Brown's Farm will come ALIVE

with music, giant puppets, belly dancing, and fire twirling three days during tie "Be Here Now" Festival this August.

Organizers hope to build on the success of “Harry Hoe-Down,” the first festival held on the site this season, where thousands of people braved the late June rains to bring to life Harry Brown's vision of “free people assembling freely.” An icon of Maine's counter-culture, Brown has been hosting festivals on his land for nineteen years to support efforts to legalize marijuana in Maine.

For more information, please visit us at www.harryshill.com and www.mainecommonsense.org or call 207-333-6985.
