STUPIDS - THE KIDS DON'T LIKE IT CD / LIMITED EDITION COLOUR SPLATTER VINYL LP
THE STUPIDS are back! The band that were the pioneers for a whole UK scene have reformed, and produced not only their first new album in 21 years, but arguably their most complete album ever. This isn’t a tired old rehash living on former glories – THE STUPIDS are back, and are stronger than ever! Following on from last years critically acclaimed reissues of their entire back catalogue which introduced the band to a whole new generation, allied to a loyal committed existing fan base, the limited edition “Feel the Suck” single sold out its first pressing via mailorder only in 3 weeks and received brilliant reviews in the press all round. “THE KIDS DON’T LIKE IT” has taken almost a year to make, and features 16 new tracks that stand proud alongside their illustrious back catalogue. Archetypically STUPIDS, but the STUPIDS for the 21st century sounding fresh and bang up to date – it’s like the last 2 decades never happened. We could wheel out all the tired old clichés of The Shitty Limits being one of the most exciting bands to have crossed our paths in a very, very long time who have a sound that mixes 60’s garage, 70’s punk and 80’s hardcore in frenetic songs backed up by explosive live shows that have gained a formidable reputation in the DIY scene and that this is one of the most hotly awaited debuts in a long time- but why bother dealing in clichés?

ARMCHAIR SUPPORTERS is the long awaited follow up to SOUTHPORT’s debut Nothing Is Easy album. It’s almost a decade since Nothing Is Easy was released, but SOUTHPORT are back with a bang – and with arguably their strongest line up to date, featuring original SNUFF member Simon Wells on Guitar and Vocals joined by Dec Kelly (MIDWAY STILL) on Drums and Lloyd Chambers (BLOCKO) on bass. This isn’t another bog standard punk album - the thirteen tracks on offer show a significant progression in SOUTHPORT’s sound, where the trademark killer song writing and up-tempo melodic punk is complemented by 60’s mod power-pop sensibilities and a driving Hammond organ. The band will be playing numerous UK shows to support the album release, and tours of Germany and Japan will follow before the end of the year. A limited vinyl pressing will be available from late July.

VARSITY DRAG - ROCK'N'ROLL IS SUCH A HASSLE : LIVE IN EUROPE CD
VARSITY DRAG is the latest project by original LEMONHEADS co-founder and co-songwriter Ben Deily. As a taster for the upcoming new VARSITY DRAG album and UK tour due in October, “ROCK N ROLL IS SUCH A HASSLE:LIVE IN EUROPE” is a special midprice album capturing the band on their last European tour, recorded in Austria. Alongside the standout tracks from the VARSITY DRAG debut “For Crying Out Loud” album Ben also treated fans to live versions of some of his finest songs written for the LEMONHEADS, many played out live to audiences in Europe for the very first time (as Ben originally left the LEMONHEADS prior to their first European tour).

GAN hailed from North Lincolnshire and were one of the prominent second wave of UK hardcore pop-punk bands to emerge in the early 90s after the likes of SNUFF and LEATHERFACE. Do That Again? ...Again?!? compiles everything they ever recorded, all of which has been unavailable for over a decade, including not only the Do That Again album (originally released on SMR in 1992), but the Blink” 7 (Popkid Records 1993), Water Powered Teenies 7" (Vinyl Japan 1995) and Pigdog 7” from 1996, as well as their live favourite , the cover of 99 Red Balloons previously unreleased. All 24 tracks have been digitally remastered and features 11 songs previously unavailable on CD before. Compiled with liner notes from the band and many unseen photos. Members of GAN went on to form ONE CAR PILE UP, who remain active to this day with releases on Damaged Goods and Crackle.

SECTION 13 - A DEMONSTRATION CD
Formed over a chance meeting in a tattoo parlour, SECTION13 are an exciting new UK punk band whose inspiration comes from the early 80’s USHC scene – featuring Ian Murphy (DEPRAVED/VISIONS OF CHANGE) on vocals, the band have already built up a formidable reputation for live shows which will be demonstrated further when they head out on a UK tour to support the release of “A Demonstration”. Further live dates throughout 2009 to follow to support the release and a new album later in the year. For fans of hardcore in its purest form, think Black Flag, Circle Jerks, Bad Brains, Minor Threat, Descendents, Adolescents, Germs etc.
THE MAGNIFICENT - PAY THE CRIMES CD
The Magnificent is Jimmy Islip (vocals / guitar), Matt Colmer (vocals / guitar), Charlie Batten (drums) & Carl Glover (bass). They have been playing music together since their pre-teens (including That Fucking Tank, Buzzkill and Eighty Six) until finally settling as the Magnificent in late 2006. Their music has been compared to popular U.S punk stuff like Rancid, Gaslight Anthem, Green Day and The Hold Steady to name a few but their sound is definitely English and owes more to the Clash than anything else. ‘Pay The Crimes’ is their first full-length album and showcases their honest lyrics and straight-up song writing. The album features contributions from Paul Rafferty of HOT CLUB DE PARIS and Rob Taylor from Wakefield band PYLON.

THE HARD ONS need little introduction – one of the most successful and consistent Australian bands for the past 25 years – yes, that’s right, 2009 marks the HARD ONS 25th Anniversary, and to coincide with this milestone, Boss Tuneage is releasing “SUCK AND SWALLOW”, a staggering 25 track Best of compilation. From their first single “Surfin On My Face” right through to a brand new unreleased track “Everyone Seems To Be Out To Get You”, “SUCK AND SWALLOW” has the lot. The release coincides with the bands 25th Anniversary European Tour running for 6 weeks through March and April
DUNCAN REDMONDS - BUBBLE AND SQUEAK CD / DOUBLE LP
Duncan Redmonds for the last 20 years has been the driving force behind UK punk legends SNUFF as well as BILLY NO MATES and GUNS N WANKERS, and also can currently be found in the TOY DOLLS and DUNCANS DIVAS. Four years in the making, “BUBBLE AND SQUEAK” is Duncan’s first solo album, featuring guest collaborations recorded all over the world with many of the friends Duncan has played with over the last two decades. The list of collaborators reads like a who’s-who of the UK punk scene over that time, as well as guest spots from overseas punk legends such as NO MEANS NO and Fat Mike from NOFX.

If Bruce Springsteen, Kurt Cobain and The Lemonheads had teamed up for a jam, it'd have sounded something like The Doublecross. A pillar of the British punk community for years, singer-songwriter Jon Greenwood has taken a more melodic route on his debut album Things Will Never Change. With tales of love/hate relationships with women, alcohol, family and friends- Music does not get more personal and honest than this. From the dramatic opener White Noise, to the anthemic October Skies, through to the heartbreaking closing track Seven - Things Will Never Change is by his own admission, a collection of "abrasive pop songs". Recorded under a railway bridge (really!) on a shoe-string budget, the album features a plethora of guest musicians, illustrating how friendship and hard work against the odds can truly pay-off.
BACK TO SQUARE ONE AGAIN: 89-91 is the latest instalment of the highly acclaimed Boss Tuneage Retro Series, featuring the recordings of Brighton’s SLEEP. Although only in existence for two years, SLEEP made quite an impact on the UK melodic punk scene in a short time. Through the Suffocate 7 inch and Cat And Mouse LP both released on Meantime Records, and a string of shows up and down the country (including supporting QUICKSAND on their UK tour) SLEEP dealt in melodic hardcore akin to the likes of HDQ, SNUFF and INSTIGATORS. This CD contains their vinyl releases complete with extra bonus, rare demo and live tracks and many unseen photos, plus liner notes from the band themselves. This is the first time SLEEP’s recordings have been available on CD.

Hut Ab geht in die 3. Runde
Lieber Freund und Besucher unseres Kleinkunstwohnzimmers,
das war nun auch die 2. Runde der Veranstaltung “Hut Ab“. Das gemütliche Ambiente lud ein weiteres mal zum verweilen, zuhören und genießen ein. Annika Hein und Band überraschte das Publikum mit einer vielseitigen multiinstrumentalen Performance. Mit leisen Tönen verzückte uns Dana Shanti und ließ uns den lauten Alltag vergessen. Last but not least, Sid der Liedermacher zauberte mit gesungem Wort und Witz allen ein Lächeln ins Gesicht. Nicht zu vergessen die Leckerein von unserem buchhaltenden Chefkoch Rudi. Es war wieder ein schöner runder Abend. Wie immer gilt ein ganz besonderer Dank an die Künstler und die vielen fleißigen Helfer.
Hoffentlich bis zum 06.11.09, wenn es wieder heißt „Hut Ab“ im ORWOhaus.
