THE LABEL...
Botchit & Scarper Records (a unique label in the present times, concentrating on artist development) was established in 1995 by business partners Vini Medley and Martin Love, the founders of pioneering Jungle record label SOUR. Over the past 13 years Botchit has become the leading international Breakbeat label (Music Week, 2000), releasing near to 50 singles and more than 20 full length ground breaking albums from the likes of T. Power, FreQ Nasty, B.L.I.M, Atomic Hooligan, Aquasky Vs MasterBlaster, Raw Deal, Chris Carter and many more. These breaks artists were amongst the original new breed of producers who learnt their trade producing drum and bass and became frustrated by sticking to one tempo. T.Power, Blim and FreQ Nasty way back in 95 presented label manager Vini with their new style of music and Vini was so impressed (he bought the company!) he let them rip with many a quality breaks release! And thus, amongst many other quality Botchit tunes, the phenomenal "Freakazoid', 'Boomin Back Atcha' featuring Phoebe One (the Queen of UK Hip Hop) by FreQ Nasty was born, along with the genre breaking 'U' which saw Shara Nelson collaborate with B.L.IM and Chris Carter - the first ever big breaks vocal track. Also T.Power's 'Running' and 'Dangerous' - featuring the Uk's finest hip hop MC, Blade...
The 4VINI Project was a 50-track album released in 2002 as a tribute to the late Vini Medley (who passed away in 2000) and it proved just how versatile the label is. Martin, Sonia, George and Danny successfully sourced a number of highly acclaimed artists to contribute tracks to the album, including MJ Cole, Elisabeth Troy, Red Snapper, Pressure Drop, Asian Dub Foundation, Skinny and Roots Manuva. The lead single 'Forever Young' reached number 75 in the UK National Charts and received praise from many of the UK's leading DJ's.
More recent projects have included Lawgiverz' reinterpretation of the compilation mix CD 'Bass Instinct', about which M8 Magazine dubbed it 'One of the most energetic and exiting mix albums in years. Don't miss this.' Other triumphs have included Jason Sparks' 'Heroes & Villains' LP reaching 1 in Capital Radio's CLUB CHART Playlist, and Deekline & Wizard's debut album 'Breaks, Beats, and Blondes' being EZ playlisted on Kiss 100 Radio.
THE ARTISTS...
Atomic Hooligan had huge success with their Underworld remixes on V2, and in 2005 released their genre-blurring debut LP 'You Are Here', gaining them critical acclaim across the world. Right off, Atomic Hooligan cleaned up at the international breakbeat awards known as BREAKSPOLL, nailing 'Best Album'.
Now a fully firing nine piece LIVE band, Atomic Hooligan have made some serious waves with their second LP, 'Sex, Drugs, and Blah, Blah, Blah', released March 2008. Their masterpiece shook the breaks community to its foundations, and landed them the cover of the March 2008 issue of IDJ (International DJ) Magazine!
THE NIGHTS...
Botchit's artists were instrumental in creating a huge buzz at the award-winning breaks night Collision (winner of best breaks club night in 'Best of Breaks' survey on nubreaks.com) at the Bridge & Tunnel. This had its first incarnation as a tribute night to Vini Medley, and hosted the likes of Annie Nightingale, M. J Cole, FreQ Nasty, T.Power, Rennie Pilgrem, Paul Thomas, Rat Pack, Si Begg, Atomic Hooligan, SOTO, MC Dett and Shy FX as they paid their respects. From there, the night led the breaks scene by example, with DJ Rap soon performing her FIRST EVER breaks set in England!
