to get a full understanding of bottom bracket you must travel to
the new mexican high desert of the mid '90s where drummer, jb
sutherland, and (then) bassist, mike dillon, first joined forces.
although the jazz trio led by jb's father was a rather unlikely seed
project for bottom bracket, it still infused the musical relationship
between mike and jb that has lasted to this day.
in '05, shortly after jb moved out to the east coast and the
experi-metal project, chamisa mesa, of which mike was a part
disbanded, bottom bracket was formed as an
experimental/improvisational guitar and drums duo. in this form bottom
bracket played sporadically, their shows being marked for their
audience participation and lingering sense of confusion.
due to random circumstances mike and shaun crossed paths in hopes of
starting a new project, but after a few months of searching for a
drummer it became clear that the best thing to do was to bring shaun
in as the bassist for bottom bracket. with this new configuration
bottom bracket is now fully formed (like voltron) and will destroy
anything that stands in it's way.
oh yeah- mike is totally into bikes.
