Boutros Bubba started out as a guitar/drums duo, but right now there are three peoples in Boutros Bubba. One plays guitar and sings, another one plays the drums and recently another person was added to play bass guitar, which is what he is also doing.
Boutros Bubba writes melodic and dissonant songs that are often rythmically challenging. Members of Boutros Bubba used to star, and in some cases still star, in bands such as: Quarles van Ufford, Gone Bald, SGP, Morbide Eenheid, Mallow, Petrified Host, CSMD, De Reizende Verkoper and Spoelstra.
Boutros Bubba recorded a fair collection of their songs. So far songs can be found on an E.P. released by Narrominded called "Hearing Voicst in a beer commercial makes me wanna get drunk", followed by the How I Wrote The Star Spangled Banner b/w Silly Me And The Homosexuals 7" in 2007, again by Narrominded and the full length album "National Anthems", co-released by Narrominded, MOMI recordings and Whosbrain Records.
Boutros Bubba is inspired by lots of bands. I will name a few: U.S. Maple, The Jesus Lizard, Don Caballero, Slint, Oxbow, Deerhoof, Country Teasers, Shellac and Dazzling Killmen.
"They might become the next big thing in country music, if they would only stop all this math bullshit, learn to stick to a 4/4 beat, use no more than 3 chords in a song instead of all this discordant noise, lose their antipathy against wearing cowboy hats, start to write intelligent lyrics about love instead of incest and learn how to play a goddamn pedal steel" Garth Brooks.
