I'm Afraid of Americans

Add to My Profile | More Videos

Ziggy Stardust, Alladinsane, Major Tom, the Thin White Duke, the Man who Fell to Earth, the Earthling….all masks of an actor - the Cracked Actor, David Bowie. The influence David Bowie has had over rock music, and perhaps our culture itself, is immeasurable. David’s ability to reinvent himself while challenging the world of music and art, pushing the boundaries as it were, guarantee him a permanent place in the history of entertainment.

It is with this belief that Diamond Dogs – The Sound & Vision of David Bowie exists. Diamond Dogs is a seven piece musical group that tributes the entire career of David Bowie in both Sound and Vision. Diamond Dogs performs all of his hits: Space Oddity, Ziggy Stardust, Young Americans, Ashes to Ashes, Let’s Dance, China Girl, I’m Afraid of Americans, etc., as well as fan favorites: Life on Mars, Moonage Daydream, Time, Station to Station, Stay, Always Crashing in the Same Car, etc., and material from his more recent recordings: Hearts Filthy Lesson, Hallo Spaceboy, Survive, etc. All Diamond Dogs’ performances include a visual recreation of David’s stage personas mentioned above as well as other eras of his career including: the Berlin period, Serious Moonlight to the most recent Reality.

Rich Kline (as David Bowie) - Vocals / Guitar

My introduction to the music of David Bowie happened in a friend’s basement in 1975, listening to, ironically enough, “Diamond Dogs”. I have been fascinated by Bowie’s music and career ever since. My musical career began as a drummer/percussionist in 1979. After years of cover and original bands, I came out from behind the drum kit, ala Phil Collins, as lead vocalist in 1995. I found my vocal strength in singing David Bowie’s material. Simultaneously, I began performing in live theater. Among my credits, I have portrayed several roles (Judas, Pilate & Herod) in various productions of “Jesus Christ Superstar”, Riff-Raff in “The Rocky Horror Show”, and have appeared in “The Who’s - Tommy” and “Hair”. “Diamond Dogs – The Sound and Vision of David Bowie” allows me to combine Theater and Rock & Roll. I truly hope that my performance in “Diamond Dogs – The Sound & Vision of David Bowie” indeed brings the “Sound and Vision” of David Bowie to his fans and initiate new fans to an amazing catalog of music. Thank you David. Cheers!

Russ Lafferty - Bass Guitar / Guitar / Backing Vocals

Russ, a self-taught musician, has been in several area cover acts (King’s Row, Play by Play, We’re no Cherries) as well as an original act, Vinyl Solution, that was an opening act for REO Speedwagon. Influences: John Paul Jones, John Entwhistle, Mel Shacter, etc. Russ’s equipment includes a 1972 Fender Precision Bass guitar, a Five string Shecter bass, and an Ampeg SVT-3 Amplifier.

Dave Clark - Drums / Percussion

Dave began his drumming career at the age of seven. Following seven years of music lessons, he entered the cover band circuit with such acts as King’s Row, Play by Play, and High Heel Sneakers, as well as original projects including Head Trip, Chronic Rage and Temple 8. Dave is currently the percussionist for the original progressive rock act, the Byron Nemeth Group. Influences: Buddy Rich, Neil Peart, Mike Portney and Stewart Copeland.

Brad Wyner - Keyboards / Vocals

Brad comes from the world of musical theater with a passion for rock-n-roll. His college band, Mickey Finn, achieved success in the Cincinnati, OH area in the 90’s. In 2002, Brad was in NYC performing with Piano Loco: The Rock & Roll Dueling Piano show, on Times Square. In the theater world, he has worked as Musical Director at Cleveland Public Theater (Rocky Horror Show), Kalliope Stage (Cabaret) Cassidy Theater (Little Shop of Horrors), Cleveland Playhouse and Cabaret Dada, and has had successful productions of most popular rock musicals, including Jesus Christ Superstar, The Wiz, Tommy, Smokey Joe's Cafe, and Hair, in addition to conducting the more theatrical scores of Chicago, Sweeney Todd, Les Miserables, and Children of Eden. Brad also conducts music and drama classes with teenagers in foster care, teaches musical theater at The Beck Center and Cleveland School of the Arts, and continues to freelance in theater. Influences: Billy Joel, Greg Allman, Ray Charles, Little Richard, Elton John, Brent Midland, Chuck Leavell, Jim Steinman, and……Mike Garson, of course.

Jim Cirillo - Saxophone / Percussion / Guitar / Keyboards / Backing Vocals

Jim’s musical background reaches from jazz fusion, bebop, hard bop, beat box, hip hop, and hair metal. He has performed in such prestigious venues as Berklee Performance Center (Boston, MA), Toad’s Place (New Haven, CT), House of Blues (Cleveland, OH), Duc des Lombards (Paris, France), Mentor Center for Perfoming Arts (Mentor, OH), Manny’s Car Wash – Blues Club (NYC). Jim has opened for the Whispers, Ronnie Earl and Blue Magic, shared the stage with Paquito D’Rivera, Rufus Reid, Gordon Beadle, Jim Snidero, Cary Hoffman (Frank Sinatra tribute) and Burt Teague. He has co-founded and written original music for Incidental Groove, Full Swing, After Hours & All Fronts Jazz Trio. Locally, Jim has performed with Jackie Warren, Joe Bell and the Swing Lizards and the Jerry Bruno Orchestra. Influences: Phil Woods, Charlie Parker, Michael Brecker, David Sanborn, Robben Ford and Jaco Pastorius. Jim Cirillo plays Selmer saxophones.
