   About BoWsER
Hearing BoWsER perform is something you won’t forget in a hurry. This is the way rock music is meant to be. It’s tight, it’s fast, it’s dynamic and most importantly, it’s interesting.

There’s a hint of just about everything in BoWsER’s music, but you’d be hard-pressed to find another band that sounds even remotely like them.

And thanks to a brilliant release, run of great shows, and plenty of airplay it seems people just about everywhere are starting to take notice of this four-piece from Queensland’s Gold Coast.

Rewind to 2004 and the talents of Nathan Williams, Otto Mitter Jr, Grant Wallis, and Brad Weynton first come together as BoWsER. The connection was instant. Here were four artists with the ability to pull each other in new directions, to make music that’s truly inventive. This was never going to be your standard rock fare.

Over the following years the band played countless shows, wrote a batch of irresistible songs, and emerged as a tight, prolific creative unit – they still perform wonderfully tripped out instrumentals through side-project Kwerkshoppe.

Their combined talents were soon recognised with EMI Publishing signing the band to a worldwide publishing deal.

Then came Modus Operandi, the slap you in the face mini-album of 2007.

As Drum Media’s Michael Smith put it: “These kids have the chops. Two years and they’ll be spitting fire. Six songs so full of ideas all over in barely over 15 minutes just aren’t enough."

Greeted with rave reviews, lead track Soldier not only scored national airplay, the band picked up a Triple J Unearthed gong, supporting Eagles of Death Metal in the process. Soldier also helped BoWsER earn a spot in the finals of both the Rock Category and The Courier-Mail People’s Choice Award at the 2007 Q Song Awards.

The release of Modus Operandi saw the band expand its already never-ending run of tours and shows up and down the east coast of Australia. To date they’ve played some of the country’s best festivals – including the Big Day Out and the Playground Festival – and shared a stage with its biggest bands, among them Grinspoon and Gyroscope.

They also managed to impress industry figures from around the globe when they showcased at Brisbane’s BIG SOUND music industry conference. The result of that one brilliant set was more touring and a growing interest in a band clearly ready to step on to a bigger stage.

Modus Operandi is now available to download from dozens of e-tailers worldwide through SUGARRUSH Records and IODA. To date, the band has sold a growing number downloads around the globe – from Japan and the USA, to the UK and Europe.

Its release overseas is building on the interest the band is now earning abroad, particularly in North America.

Earlier this year the band was invited to perform at next January’s Winter X Games in Aspen, Colorado - the largest winter extreme sport event and festival of its kind in the world. The trip to Aspen will be supported by a run of showcase performances in the United States.

Heading to The States will kick off yet another big year for the band, with work already underway on the anticipated follow-up to Modus Operandi.

"Good lord, what a walloping this tune serves up! Played with tight precision but still leaves you plenty of room to bounce off the riff action; go on play it again BoWsER!"

MODUS OPERANDI

" Their hearts lie in three to three and a half minute bite sized chunks of cracking good quirkiness. These kids have the chops. Two years and they’ll be spitting fire. Six songs so full of ideas all over in barely over 15 minutes just aren’t enough."

Who The Bloody Hell Are They?

BoWsER - ‘Soldier’

Now this is rock - pure get-naked-and-drink-til-you-drop kinda rock. Fitting, too, that BoWsER (who hail from the Gold Coast) supported the Eagles of Death Metal on their tour of Australia. There’s a definite Queens of the Stone Age vibe to ‘Soldier’, one of the songs off BoWsER’s EP Modus Operandi that’s been getting some radio lovin’ around the place.

This is one of the most infectious rock tunes I’ve heard in quite some time, and no doubt would rock the house live. It’s a simple four-to-the-floor song, but damn it’s good. Short and sweet, like a good rock song should be.

GIG REVIEW

ENACIO, The Sleep Parade & Bowser Hard Rock Café - 28th March 2008

Last is Gold Coast band Bowser. The band have recently won some deserving accolades such as a support slot for The Eagles of Death Metal and showcasing at Q Music’s Big Sound Conference in Brisbane. Their devoted fans have stayed though and they wait around the stage.

Try as I might, I honestly can’t put the Bowser boys in a box! Their sound is unique. They describe it as experimental and the closest I can come to labelling it is maybe Hardcore Funk? One song reminded me of Regurgitator and maybe a dash of Butterfingers on another.

Drummer Q is fastidious on drums, keeping them rollin’ and wearing a serious expression throughout the set as if lost in earnest thought and concentration. Chicho, the bass player, is one of my favourite bass players to watch, not only because he’s the expert, but because he always gets into it, his head nodding or you could say jerking, in time with his bass rhythm. Then there’s lead guitarist Grant, whose skill on guitar helps him to pull out crazy sounds. Tonight it’s the wall of a siren. Lead singer Brad also plays guitar and is able to match his voice perfectly to the music.

If you haven’t seen Bowser I recommend you check them out. Tonight they didn’t disappoint and they did the GC proud once again!
