  • Bio

The roots of the North Texas Skunkgrass band, the Boxcar Bandits, trace back to the demise of Blaizin' Grass in late 2005, after which Texas Rex enlisted the help of some local drinkers with picking problems, and began performing under the moniker of the Boxcar Bandits in February 2006 in the lovely town of Denton, TX. Equally at home at a beer joint or back porch, coffeshop, streetcorner, or concert hall, the Bandits unique brand of picking has been known to cause spontaneous squaredancing! They meld old-time, fastgrass, gospel and country with the sounds of string band instruments to create the North Texas Skunkgrass sound. Several members have come and gone, including Paul Slavens, Tamara Cauble and Three-Finger Al McIntosh, but the core group of Texas Rex, Grady Don Sandlin, Austin Smith, Hillary Early and Ryan Williams continue the Skunkgrass tradition. he Bandits first album, "Smells Like Grass" was released on Break-a-Pick Records in 2008. These grizzly road warriors have taken their show on the road throughout their home state of Texas, also continuously touring coast-to-coast through the Southern half of the United States. In between touring, they are hard at work on their second record, "Far Mountain Gravy" and play most every Monday night at Dan's Silverleaf in Denton, TX. They continue to break strings and take names all throughout the land! THE BOXCAR BANDITS DO PLAY PARTIES! Booking: boxcarbandits@gmail.com Howdy Everybody! Bio:

Boxcar Bandits began when Texas Rex enlisted the help of some local musicians and began performing under the moniker in February 2006 in the town of Denton TX. Early incarnations of the Bandits featured J. Paul Slavens (ex-Ten Hands) and Tamara Cauble (ex- Telegraph Canyon). Equally at home at a beer joint or concert hall, the Bandits meld oldtime, bluegrass, western swing, and country with the sound of string band instruments to create the "North Texas Skunkgrass" sound. Their first album "Smells Like Grass" was self-released in 2008 on Break-a-Pick Records. They have taken their show on the road throughout their home state of Texas and continue touring throughout the Southern half of the United States, in addition to performing every Monday at Dan's Silverleaf in Denton when they are not on the road. In the summer of 2011, the band signed with Flight Music Group for a Fall release of their next record, "Live at Dan's Silverleaf."
