Boy and Bean got their start in Washington state in the winter of 2008. Luke and Amber Short began this husband and wife duo with one song, "Bei Mir Bist Du Schon." In January 2008, the couple moved to portland. Noticing the wide acceptance of street musicians, they decided to build on their one song repertoire. They now have over an hour of material and can be seen sharing a mic at private parties, restaurants and busking all over town. They have a regular gig at Virgo and Pisces in Northwest.
Luke Short plays guitar and lends his unique harmonies to the group. He has been performing and writing music since the age of fifteen. His love of depression era music, which him and Amber cover with a slightly modern twist, can be felt in the original music he performs in his other project Egg Plant. He's looking forward to the release of their debut album early 2009. Luke owes much of his exposure to that genre of music to his other half.
Amber Short was born Amber Clark in Westwood California. She grew up surrounded by black and white film and the warm crackly sounds of the 20's, 30's and 40's thanks to her mother Margie, who was born during the depression. Amber grew up singing in school choirs but always longed to do the music dearest to her heart.
Luke and Amber married in December 2005 and have since worked several odd jobs to make ends meet including the merchant marines. They are now making an all out effort to make music together. Their inspiration lies in the vocal styles of The Mills Brothers, Ella Fitzgerald, The Boswell Sisters, Bing Crosby, The Andrews Sisters, Louis Armstrong and a host of other legendary musicians.
They are currently expanding their set and working on an album together.

You two are awesome and beautiful! I haven't made it to a show to say hi for awhile. I'm about to make it happen though! I see you have some gigs this weekend. Maybe I'll make it to one of those, and if not, we should all try to get together and have a dinner, drinks, and jams night. We miss you two and look forward to seeing you soon! -drummer ben and the rest of the Goats
