"I started playing Country music because I liked what I was hearing, about believing in being a proud American, about my life out in the woods in Happy Camp, California, population 800 people, about one hundred miles away from any city...County fairs and working with land and with our horses and cows and chickens, shotguns and campfires…Running from bears, being between mountain lions and elk and deer, and living through wildfires and floods....Highway hay runs...About my family's daily story, and learning to be tough...All that gets told in Country songs...And I believe that is an important story that someone has to continue to tell and stand up for...And that's where Country boys come in that are willing to fight hard enough to tell that story..."--Brad Burns
With Brad Burns' "Your Smile" compilation, Burns’ songs are stories of life as he's known it in the Western United States. His latest CDBaby release is "Country Walk”. Brad's future releases will continue to focus on his unique Western American experience.
Brad has opened for Country music's Terri Clark (2005), pop-Gospel's Warren Barfield (2007) at the Siskiyou County Golden Fair in Yreka, CA, and had six months of radio play with two of his songs on KSYC radio in Siskiyou County and Southern Oregon. Brad’s “Wrong Number In Nashville” EP ranked in at number four in the genre of Country Rodeo on CDBaby.com’s “Editor’s Picks” with Country legend Chris LeDoux’s group’s latest release coming in at number one in 2008. Burns spent 2008 living in Eugene, Oregon, working in Country music as a band leader/manager/booking playing bars while going to college. Brad is working towards a college degree.
So how did a country boy from the middle of the woods end up with an island feel to some of his songs on his "Your Smile" compilation?
While visiting Maui in 2007 he drove out to the West Beach one night to hear the live musicians that play the hotels that line the beach, and he wrote "Maui Stars.'" This set the theme for other notable Brad Burns island Country tracks like, his classic sounding Country song with an island rhythm, "No Man Is An Island", and his personal experience inspired anthem of overcoming small town and nationwide challenges of unemployment with his song "New Way To Lose." The island sound also is found in "Wrong Number In Nashville." Brad wrote "Wrong Number In Nashville" after dialing the wrong number in Nashville in 2007. That year he also did a Native American/Country music show at the Karuk Tribe in California.
Burns performs his song "Letters" at shows as well. Brad has spent summers swimming in the creeks, and growing up with United States military buddies pre and post deployments and communicating during their deployment, from 2003 to today. Through those experiences, he continually finds the inspiration for his song "Letters" in the bravery and compassionate hearts of his buddies in the United States military and the many US veterans he is proud to call his friends. The other tracks on his "Your Smile" compilation are equally powerful, but "Maui Stars", "No Man Is An Island", "New Way To Lose", 'Wrong Number In Nashville", "Yesterday's Coffee" and "Letters" are the tracks Brad feels are his best work so far. Brad writes all the lyrics to all his songs.
Brad began songwriting at the age of twelve in Escondido, California, a Southern California town close to the U.S./Mexico border. Brad taught himself to play bass, rhythm guitar, lead guitar, drums and keyboard. He continuously studies songwriting and vocal techniques. He learned the intricacies of digital music recording software, studio performing (recording) all the vocals (of his original lyrics) and recording all of the instruments (except harmonica) on all his album releases, and designing album art; ultimately producing his record albums, live shows and concerts.
Brad hopes to see "Your Smile" real soon at the show.
Brad currently lives in Nashville, Tennessee and is a working Country music entertainer--just as he set out to be--back on a dirt road in the woods of the California/Oregon border.
