Bio
Brad began composing at age 15, inspired in large part by his father, William Burrill, a band director and saxophonist who wrote his own jazz ensemble arrangements. A 1992 graduate of UW-Milwaukee with a BFA in Vocal Music Education, Brad has been a public school music teacher for 15 years, working with students in grades 1-12 during that span. He is also an accomplished baritone soloist and actor, and has directed musical theater productions at the elementary, high school and community theatre levels. His compositions are primarily choral, and he has written for many ability levels, specializing in a cappella works. In 1998, he served as Assistant Director of Music and Composer in Residence at Christ United Methodist Church, in Rochester, MN. In the summer of 2003, Brad's piece Full Fathom Five was featured at the American Composers Forum Chicago Chapter Choral Reading Salon. And in January 2006, Loss and Gain was chosen as the winner of the 2006 Wisconsin Choral Directors Association Choral Composition Contest. His piece My Soul Is Awakened was published by Santa Barbara Music Publishing in June of 2007, as part of the Matthew and Michael Culloton Choral series. He served as the choral director at Wisconsin Dells High School from 2000 to 2009, and currently lives in Wausau, Wisconsin with his wife and three children. When he is not composing, Brad is a substitute music teacher for several Wausau area school districts. He is an active member of the American Composers Forum, the American Music Center, and the American Choral Directors Association. -
