******Dragons March Closer to Play off Spot (17.02.07)****
Bradford Dragons 1 secured an invaluable victory over BC University of Wolverhampton in a tense encounter at Woohouse Grove School on Saturday evening.
The victory brings Dragons to 5th place in the EBL Division 3 (North) Men’s league table, just one spot behind BC University of Wolverhampton and the play off spot.
The game was fast paced from the beginning with Dragons’ Latvian forward Janis Lasmanis opening with an impressive 3-pointer as Dragons took the 1st quarter 22-20.
Wolverhampton clawed back 2 points in the 2nd quarter as the scores were tied at 40 all going into the break, then got off to a flyer in the penultimate quarter which saw Dragons go behind at 60-65.
Thankfully for Dragons, Wolverhampton were unable to contain their offence in the 4th quarter and it was a late basket from Dragons Latvian Shooting Guard Daumants Pabrieza that clinched it for Bradford.
Stuart Culliford, Dragon’s Chairperson said, ‘This was a must win game for us and if we keep winning we can make a play off place. Dragons now have 3 games on the road, Loughborough away on sat 24/2/07 then 2 West Yorkshire derby games on

*****Dragons reflect on away win against Nottingham and look forward to great weekend of West Yorkshire Basketball (07.02.07)******
Bradford Dragons’ battle to secure an EBL play off place continued on Saturday with a comfortable 75-94 away win against City of Nottingham Tribe.
Dragons took the first quarter 18-12 but slipped back in the second quarter to go in 37-32 ahead at half time.
A switch of both the defensive pattern and a change of players saw Dragons’ full court press control the game and force Nottingham into several turnovers that Dragons were able to capitalise upon to go ahead 67-52 at the end of the third quarter.
Dragons controlled the final quarter to win 94-75 at the close.
Dragons Head Coach Chris Mellor said, “This was a solid all round performance by the whole team with several players scoring in double figures. We were able to up the defensive pressure in the second half to get control the game. This was a convincing win against a Nottingham team that has beaten Wolverhampton and lost after double overtime to leaders Durham Wildcats.’

It is a must win game next Saturday against Manchester Magic 2. Both teams need to win to make the play offs.’

Dragons reach semi-final of England Basketball National Shield (21.01.07)
Bradford Dragons One are celebrating after a 67-83 quarter-final victory over Colchester United Tigers at the University of Essex on Sunday, taking them to the semi-finals of the England Basketball National Shield Competition.
Colchester currently play in the Southern section of EBL Division Three, and, like Dragons in the Northern section, occupy a mid-table position.
The victory softened the blow of a narrow 67-63 away defeat against Durham Wildcats on Saturday in Dragons' EBL Division Three (North) Campaign.
Dragons Chairperson Stuart Culliford said:
'I'm pleased we overcame the disappointment of losing by 4 points the day before to Durham Wildcats to make the long haul to the University of Essex worthwhile. In only our second season of EBL competition, reaching the semi finals of the National Shield is a significant achievement for us.'
Dragons are now mid-table in the EBL Division Three (North) with 6 wins and as many losses. Their next league encounter is against Birmingham on 27th January, 6.20pm tip-off, at Woohouse Grove School, Apperley Bridge. Anyone interested in basketball is urged to come along and support Dragons as they continue to make their mark on England Basketball. Admission is £2, £1 for concessions.
The semi-final of the National Shield will be held on 11th February, with the final taking place on 26th February.

****DRAGONS SINK SABRES IN THRILLER*****
Bradford Dragons’ improved form continued at the weekend with a hard fought victory against Sheffield Sabres in their EBL Division Three (North) clash at Woodhouse Grove School on Saturday 13/1/07.
Dragons Kwasi ‘Q’ Sarkodee-Adoo opened the scoring with an impressive 3-pointer inside the first minute, but an on-form Sabres took the lead until Dragons’ Daumants Pabrieza netted a basket on the buzzer followed by a successful free throw to level the scores at 14-all at the end of the opening quarter.
Sabres edged in front again in the 2nd quarter and were 3 points clear at 31-34 at half time, in an epic that looked like it could go either way.
Dragons’ top scorer and Team Captain Aaron Kay began the penultimate quarter in fighting spirit with a trademark 3-pointer, but Sabres managed to edge further in front with the scores at 51-56 going into the final quarter with England centre Richard Windle leading Sabres with 27 points.
With the home crowd on their feet Dragons had everything to play for as the game drew to a close and were on fire in arguably one of the most intense matches of the season. Marching 14 points ahead at one point, Chris Mellor’s team held form in a nail-biting thriller to take it 77-67 at the final buzzer.
Stuart Culliford, Chairperson of Bradford Dragons reflected, “These tight games are exciting to watch but not good for the blood pressure. We had to do a job on Sabres if we are to keep our play off hopes alive. They beat us in Sheffield by 23 points so this is a big win for us. The team is still not playing as well as it could do so once again our intense defence ground this win out for us in the last quarter. We have a big weekend on the road coming up as we play away to league leaders Durham Wildcats on Saturday, and then travel to Colchester United on Sunday to play in the quarter finals of the National Shield. This coming weekend will test the resolve and commitment of the team as never before’.
Dragons 1 next home game is another must win game on Saturday 29/1/07, 6.15pm tip against the University of Birmingham at Woodhouse Grove School, Apperley Bridge.
Top Scorers (Dragons): Aaron Kay (21), Daumants Pabrieza (16), Janis Lasmanis (13)
