About The Bradley McGillivray Blues Band
The Bradley/McGillivray Blues Band is a group of seasoned pros who've spent the last 8 years blending blues, jazz, Motown and gospel into their own hip, soulful sound. Founded by vocalist Ruth McGillivray and guitarist Sheldon Bradley, this band is not just a collection of players, but a unit that listens, writes, records and performs together. Ruth’s knock-you-flat vocals and Sheldon’s tasty guitar are rounded out by an inventive rhythm section featuring bassist Paul Freeman, and drummer Hoto Parker.

Through groove, improvisation and raw, unadulterated emotion, the Bradley/McGillivray Blues Band ("BMcG" for short) takes listeners on a journey rarely heard in today’s image-driven music. They play with authenticity, whether it’s an uptown jazz shuffle, gritty Mississippi blues, or New Orleans funk. Influenced by artists like Warren Haynes, Robben Ford, Susan Tedeschi, Janis Joplin and Etta James, they've built an impressive repertoire of original music and "twisted covers" (familiar tunes played in unfamiliar ways).

There's no gimic or hype in a BMcG show--just smokin' music, passionate delivery, and cool, clever tunes. They're a band of music lovers connecting with an audience of music lovers, and everybody has a lot of fun...which probably explains why veteran players, discerning listeners and critics are the band’s most dedicated fans.

The thing that really makes this band different is the combination of a powerhouse singer like Ruth McGillivray and jaw-dropping guitarist like Sheldon Bradley sharing center stage. After Ruth's voice has sent shivers up your spine and left the hairs on the back of your neck standing up, Sheldon steps forward and takes you on his own mesmerizing journey. Really, it's true. Ask anyone who was at their sold out, debut show at the Cellar Jazz Club last October, or the screaming audiences at the 2006 and 2007 Pender Harbour Jazz Festivals. You won't forget it once you see it.

BMcG has just released their second CD, "livin' this way". This CD, produced in Vancouver, B.C. by award-winning, veteran producer Bill Buckingham, features nine original songs, their own unique, blues version of Tennessee Waltz, and a bonus track included by special request, Piece of My Heart.

Their first CD, "River of Soul", featured their first collection of original material and was released in September 2003. This debut project received critical acclaim, 4-star reviews, and a nomination in the Jazz/Blues category of the Shai Awards. It also led to a feature interview and live performance on CBC radio.
