Before too long, you see there’s a lot more to Brad than impossible charm – the guy’s an open book of experience. Eloquent with words, precise with expression, Brad Mormino represents a true artistic spirit, the friend who lives life to its fullest and faithfully returns to tell the tale. Brad Mormino has wandered paths less traveled – and then some. He spent a dozen years as a drummer, gigging throughout the Midwest with a hard rock cover band. He has taken classical voice classes. He has recorded jingles. He has found himself performing in a piano bar, choosing Bocelli over all other options. He absorbs talent as diverse as Sinatra and Zeppelin (thankfully giving the Spice Girls a complete miss). He has written the theme song of a soap opera. Musically speaking, the man is insatiable. Whereas some artists resort to other forms of expression, Brad Mormino is undeniably attracted to the art of creating sounds from his life, using his credible skill as an arranger and vocalist to translate feelings into notes. There are thirteen cases in point on Love Hurts Anyway. “Been So Long” starts with a comic acoustic guitar before plunging into the driving no-bullshit pulse of the main riveting melody. “True Love” namechecks Cole Porter’s song of the same title, but Brad’s take on the concept is dark and relentless. “Bleed” embraces perceived weakness. “LU2” sharply scores out the results of emotional walls. Listen to the two Italian-sung tracks, “Sanguinare” and “L’amore Vero”, and take in the evocative arrangement and singing style. In this riveting collection, one can hear a frightening array of musical styles Brad absorbed en route to finding his. The end result? It’s what it takes. It’s Brad Mormino. Through Love Hurts Anyway, Mormino offers an unflinching look at the not only the war between the sexes but the more brutal war within the self. Brad Mormino has produced a stunningly personal work, and like all great personal works, it is accessible to anyone who listens to it. “It’s OK to bleed,” Brad sings in “Bleed”, “it takes guts to be who I am and stand!” Self-doubts linger, self-love is sought. “I’m just being stupid again,” he sings later in the CD. Contradiction? Not on your life. “It is my hope that my songs become other people’s,.." says Brad, slyly.

Come prima cosa, vedrai (vedi) che c’è molto di più in Brad, oltre a un grande carisma – il ragazzo è un libro aperto di esperienze. Eloquente, preciso nelle espressioni, Brad Mormino rappresenta il vero spirito artistico, l’amico che vive la vita pienamente e che fedelmente torna a raccontare la storia. Uno sguardo al simbolo del suo acclamato CD, Love Hurts Anyway, un adorabile fiore con i petali che si alternano a rasoi, conferma che Brad è certamente un ragazzo molto particolare. Brad Mormino ha percorso strade difficili (poco trafficate) – e non solo. Ha trascorso una dozzina di anni come batterista, suonando in tutto il Midwest (Usa) in una cover band hard rock. Ha preso lezioni di canto classico. Ha registrato jingles pubblicitari. Ha scoperto se stesso (ha trovato se stesso) suonando nei piano bar, scegliendo Bocelli fra tutte le altre opzioni. E’ capace di assorbire talenti diversi da Sinatra ai Led Zeppelin (per fortuna le Spice Girls non sono menzionate). Lui ha scritto la canzone principale per una soap opera. Musicalmente parlando, il ragazzo è insaziabile. Mentre alcuni artisti ricorrono (si affidano) ad altre forme di espressione, Brad Mormino è innegabilmente attratto dall’arte di creare i suoni dalla sua vita, usando la sua grande capacità come arrangiatore e cantante, di tradurre i sentimenti (le sensazioni) in note. Ci sono tredici casi di questo tipo in Love Hurts Anyway. “Been so long” inizia con una simpatica chitarra acustica prima di saltare direttamente nel ritmo dell’accattivante melodia principale. “True love” richiama una canzone di Cole Porter con lo stesso titolo, ma l’interpretazione del concetto di Brad è scuro e inesorabile. “Bleed” abbraccia la debolezza interiore. “LU2” maliziosamente abbatte (cancella) i risultati di muri emozionali. Ascolta le due canzoni in italiano, “Sanguinare” e “L’amore vero” e prendi (comprendi) l’arrangiamento evocativo e lo stile canoro. In questa collezione martellante, uno può ascoltare un vibrante schieramento di stili musicali che Brad ha assorbito nel tempo per trovare sé stesso. Il risultato finale? E’ quello che vedi (prendi). E’ Brad Mormino. Attraverso Love Hurts Anyway, Mormino offre uno sguardo risoluto non solo alla guerra tra i sessi ma alla più brutale guerra con sé. Brad Mormino ha prodotto un magnifico lavoro personale, e come i grandi lavori personali, è accessibile a chiunque lo ascolti. “Fa bene sanguinare”, canta Brad in “Bleed”, “ci vuole coraggio per essere chi sono e stare impiedi”! I dubbi di sé stessi esitano, l’amor proprio è ricercato. “Sto facendo lo stupido di nuovo,” canta più avanti nel CD. Contraddizione? Non nella vostra vita. “Spero che le mie canzoni diventino quelle (di altre) delle persone” dice Brad maliziosamente.
