Brandon’s interest in guitar and music began at the age of six when he was listening along with his father to the album Soldier of Fortune by Loudness. Though he had no idea how an electric guitar sounded, the fast-paced, loud and screaming sounds that filled the songs caught his attention. Since then, he would spend all his free time sitting by his father’s hi-fi system, browsing through the music catalogue that seemed never ending. Soon, Brandon found himself living on a daily aural diet of bands such as Jimi Hendrix, Loudness, Mr Big, Warrant, Bon Jovi and WhiteSnake.
A turning point came when Brandon saw a video footage of Stevie Ray Vaughn performing live at El Mocambo. The jaw-dropping experience got him searching his father’s collection for blues guitarists and in the midst of searching, an album which had a picture of an Ibanez multi-coloured finish guitar caught his attention. He actually counted the strings on the guitar more than three times. Making sure his eyes were not playing tricks, that the guitar actually had seven strings. It was none other than Steve Vai’s Passion and Warfare and that got him started experimenting with guitar virtuoso type music as well.
Discovery of players such as Allan Holdsworth, Richie Kozten, Brett Garsed, Scott Henderson and Greg Howe and session musicians such as Michael Landau, Steve Lukather, Allen Hinds and Rafael Moreira opened his mind towards diversifying beyond the blues and hard rock genre and incorporating jazz and fusion music styles.
After playing in mostly cover/working bands and teaching for the last five years, Brandon has finally placed his music down in recording and has released a guitar instrumental EP. A follow up with a full length is for certain in the near future.
Other musical avenues also include product demos for guitar equipment and guitar clinics/workshops.
