Interests

  • General

music, books, movies, guitars, golf (watch golf every weekend, don't get chances to play it though - unless you count video games or the occasional mini golf) that's not a complete list, just a generalized list for most intents and purposes.
  • Music

Jaco Pastorius, Van Der Graaf Generator, Klaus Schulze, Keith Jarrett, Oingo Boingo, Hawkwind, Pat Metheny, The Flower Kings, Frank Zappa, Steve Hillage, James Jamerson, Echolyn, Caravan, Opeth, Stevie Wonder, Richard Sinclair, Tangerine Dream, Camel, Hatfield and the North, Chicago, Tony Levin, Absolute Zero, Funkadelic, Eric Johnson, Michael Hedges, Ornette Coleman, Ozric Tentacles, Caravan, Tim Buckley, Gentle Giant, Dream Theater, Al Di Meola, John Coltrane, John Scofield, Pain of Salvation, Devin Townsend, Camel, Porcupine Tree, Gong, Magma, Blackfield, John Zorn, Univers Zero, Marillion, National Health, RPWL, Gov't Mule, Captain Beefheart, Brian Wilson, Caravan, Miles Davis, Crack the Sky, Mike Keneally, Zombi, Bob Drake, Umphrey's McGee
  • Movies

The best movies are released by Criterion Collection & Kino, but of course there are others. American films tend to be among the least stimulating (personally) - older movies were usually written for people with brains. If you don't believe me, compare Rashomon with Don't Mess With the Zohan...no competition there.
  • Television

Burn Notice, Heroes, Dexter, Mission: Impossible, Jeopardy!, Antique Roadshow, Life, Test Patterns, Monk, Lie to Me, House, Eleventh Hour, Mentalist (this last one is a bit too predictable) Television is a passive medium, not much happening in the brain department when you space out on the couch. Do something more productive.
  • Books

When I have time to read anything that isn't mandatory, I enjoy reading all kinds of things. I don't read the wizard and vampire books, but I enjoy mysteries, fantasy books, non-fiction, classic (and global) literature, etc.

About me:

The more one ages, one would assume that a certain amount of growth, and therefore changes in perspective would occur. Rather than knock around with the present topic and attempt to be witty and incisive, I will instead propose a question to myself: what makes me happy? The best way I can answer such a question is to say that I am happiest when my thoughts and my heart have a home. Perhaps this is a slight bit of nonsense, and I'm not sure I could explain myself, but I know I am happiest and at greater peace when I've got a goal, something to occupy my thoughts, love in my heart, and a world to surround myself with. I'm not 100% there, and perhaps I never will be, but the greatest joy is in the pursuit, not the realization. Once the road has ended, what else is left but the end? I want to remain on a journey, and I hope you all do, or have. Thank you.

Who I'd like to meet:

I like to meet creative people, though on Myspace it is an unfortunate truth that artists need money to eat, and therefore promotion of oneself is a given. I'll gladly listen to whatever you've got to play, read whatever you have to say. I'm not in a position to turn the winds of fate kindly in your favor, but I like to analyze and experience new information. Demo tracks, rough drafts, whatever - I will give you my honest opinion, if you care to have it. I also want to make friends with people who aren't necessarily artistic, but have good ideas about life and are interested in a positive, open-minded dialogue about any number of things. I don't claim to be an intellectual, but the big thing here is learning. To be honest, in my line of study, I need to know & understand a very wide variety of people, so that hopefully I can offer the world some great change. It might be a certain idea, or a single word that blends into the lexicon of humanity. I believe that in some respects we feel the impact of all lives before us, all around us. I think of places in the world where great dinosaurs left their footprints. Is there a way we can do something like this, figuratively, without destroying ourselves and the world we've inherited? I'd like to believe so.

Hey, I recorded a new song a few days ago, it's called Masquerade--based on the ballroom scene of Romeo and Juliet. Just wanted to stop by and give you the free download if you'd like it and haven't picked it up yet:

I hope you enjoy it; if you do, please pass it on to your friends and spread the love :)
