Bio
Rising from the ashes of one of the only heavy bands to have achieved platinum-selling status in New Zealand is Brandon Reihana, a guitar-wielding phoenix who incorporates his varied influences - including artists as diverse as Joe Satriani, Pantera, Steve Vai, Killswitchengage, Jason Becker, Meshuggah, Devin Townsend and Glassjaw - into crafting a sound which is uniquely his own both locally and on the world stage. Having co-written Blindspott's "End the Silence", which went platinum just a month after its release, Brandon does not shy away from his metal and hardcore roots but uses them to add an edge to his guitar-driven rock compositions, which are interspersed with emotive leads and harmonic interplays that together create a melting pot of musical textures and tones. Referring to Brandon as the "metal Joe Satriani", while in no way doing full justice to his brand of music, does however provide a measuring stick by which to judge his solo effort. Even when compared to such greats as Satch and Vai, Brandon's technical prowess and emotive fretwork allow him to firmly stand his ground. It doesn't come as much of a surprise then that he is on the international artist roster of Ibanez Guitars, the same company that makes Satriani's and Vai's own signature axes. Brandon Reihana's forthcoming release, "With This Light", aims to bring something unique to the guitar instrumental genre. Inspired by life events at a time when things were at a low point, the "light" referred to in the title is a metaphor for the creative spark present in all of us, the same one that made Brandon pick up the guitar and bleed his soul onto its strings. Merging serious "riffage" and all-around heaviness with moving passages that you wouldn't normally expect to find on one and the same record, this solo debut is not to be missed for fans of the genre as well as for those who wouldn't mind treating their ears to a different kind of guitar instrumental, one that crosses genres and pushes boundaries. -
