Brandon Whiteside is a 23 year old graduate of Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, TN. Over the last eight years, Brandon has been blessed with many wonderful opportunities to lead worship at various churches, campuses, youth events, retreats and camps, as well as college events. Brandon has a strong passion and joy for worshiping with his peers and is extremely humbled and thankful for the many great opportunities he has had over the years to be involved with just that.
"Worship is so much more than music to me," Brandon says. "We so often hear that 'worship is a lifestyle,' and that's true and I'm still learning what that really means in my own life. But more than that, worship is really a beautiful paradox to me, just as God is. There is so much mystery, awe, and wonder within worship as well as a real, deep, transcendent, genuine connection both with God and with others in corporate worship, and then on the other side there is this beautiful, authentic, personal conversation happening that is really truly meaningful and life altering. These are just a few of the things that I love about getting to be involved in worshipping through music with others."
Brandon has most recently led worship in numerous chapel services on Trevecca's campus while attending school there. Additionally, he was also a member of the worship band, Refuge, run by the Office of Admissions at Trevecca, in which he traveled almost every weekend throughout the southeast U.S. to participate in various youth and church events, as well as a full summer of leading worship at summer camps this past year. Over the past four years, he was also asked to be a part of the worship services for TNT@TNU, where over 2,000 teenagers would gather in both the historic Ryman Auditorium (2004-05) and the Grand Ole Opry House (2006-07) to worship together.
"To this day I don't understand why God has chosen for me to lead others into His presence," Brandon states. "All I know is that it is never because of me. I want to get out of the way and do everything I can to turn the focus away from 'the band' and onto Jesus. We will always strive to be excellent in what we do, but if the focus is stuck on us, everything we do is in vain. We just really count it a privilege to show up with open hearts and worship with whoever we're with in the presence of God."
Brandon recently accepted a call to college ministry in Oklahoma City where he continues to immerse himself in worship music in university chapel settings as well as services at OKC 1st where he is on staff. If you are interested in having Brandon be a part of your event, whether it be a church, college event, youth event, or coffeehouse, he would love to come and worship with you as you seek His face together. The concert benefits the Martha O'Brien Center and should be a lot of fun for anyone who was as moved by Rich's music as we were.
Here are the stats:
