About me: And so it began, over 100 years ago, as a corner bar with local musicians, performing on an 1882 Steinway up-right, with violins and horns… The longest surviving music joint in Fells Point and possibly all of Maryland…
Music styles have changed, but musicians have jammed and mixed and sometimes clashed… but the attitude was always been "the show must go on…" and it did...and still does.
There have been many reincarnations, but the music is still happening. For many years, before and after prohibition, it was Dominic’s, where stars of screen and stage, appearing in Baltimore, who wanted an out-
of-the-way place to chill (and visit the secret casino, rumor has it) and to stage impromptu performances, called home, 1601 Eastern Avenue, in Baltimore's Fells Point.
In the 40’s a new "used" antique serving bar was installed, bought from the closed Hotel Rennert, where scribe H.L.Mencken was served when prohibition was repealed. (See our photos)
In the 80’s the venue offered Bluegrass every night of the week.In the mid 90’s, the Brass Monkey Saloon was established to carry on the musical tradition, but with a couple of new twists… Local musicians, original music only, no cover songs, for artists young and old... and
profits are dedicated to local non profit organizations… especially "kiddy charities."
The owners have chosen to keep the gritty rock n' roll bar look with original everything, including the walls which aren’t talking, but are sending out vibes of the greats that have held them up all these many years.
Come play a gig with us, or just visit us… we do not pretend to be anything but a small, dirty rock n' roll corner bar with a lot of history and we make you no promises that if you play here, you would be opening for national acts so you can become an overnight sensation.
The good vibes and good music are still spilling out of our doors after 100 years…Come see for yourselves! CHEERS!
Live music and booze in Fells Point, that's all you need!
Note: We are a cash only bar, so make sure to hit up the ATM or whatever you need to do before the show.
