About me: "BRATS: Our Journey Home" is the first documentary about growing up military and the profound impact it has on the lives of adult military brats. Narrated by Air Force Brat Kris Kristofferson, and featuring interviews with Army Brat General H. Norman Schwarzkopf. Directed by Army Brat Donna Musil, the film was produced by the nonprofit organization Brats Without Borders, Inc.
"Warning: Your children are not normal."
– Jenny Sokol, CinCHouse.com
"… a beautiful film... very, very well made and… a must for each and every [person] who ever lived under these circumstances... this is not an easy topic...the filmmaker has done an excellent job of laying out the major issues.... We should all support this film in the most aggressive way possible..."
– John Hardy, Producer, Sex, Lies and Videotape, Erin Brokovich, Ocean's 11 and Ocean's 12
"... a splendid documentary that explores this rarified "cruel" life of "privilege," pain and responsibility, all lived at the point of America's spear. [It] does most everything you'd want a good documentary to do - it informs us about a corner of the culture we've overlooked and changes the way we look at these people..." (4-star review)
– Roger Moore, Movie Critic, Orlando Sentinel and Rotten Tomatoes website
"I always wondered how my own children felt about growing up Army brats, but they never were able to really tell me. This film speaks for them and so many others. It moved me so much that I've bought copies to send to my son and my daughter and others who grew up in a world entirely different from their peers.
– Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Jerry White, President, National Infantry Foundation
"I am completely overwhelmed... I thought I had covered this waterfront both intellectually and emotionally, but how wrong I was... I was sobbing."
– Sarah Bird, Author, The Flamenco Academy and The Yokota Officers Club
Who I'd like to meet: Every BRAT out there! How many are there? Nobody knows. In a country obsessed with polls and statistics, neither the Department of Defense (DoD) nor anyone else has kept a running count. You can’t tell by looking. They’re every race, age, and religion. They’re your spouses, parents, grandchildren, co-workers, and neighbors.
The DoD school system estimates it's educated 4-7 million BRATS overseas since 1946. But that’s only 20-30% of the total brat population, so you’re looking at a total of at least 15 million BRATS in America alone!
Some gave None, Some Gave Some,, and some, the bravest of the brave, gave all. Thank you. While having your cookout, don't forget to remember those brave in your thoughts and prayer, for without them, we would not be the great country we are today.
Thanks for the Add. It is amazing to see so many of us out there. Even as an adult we are still affected when our parents leave for war (My Dad did and thankfully came home 3 weeks ago!!)
Best wishes for your birthday! If you want, I'll let you have one of my original MP3 tracks for free as my birthday present for you. Just let me know which one would you like and I'll tell you where to download it.
