My favorite thing to do is to spend time with my wife, Michelle. We like to walk our dog, go camping, go out for coffee, travel, go to museums and movies, and we take classes together.
For me though, I am just about obsessed with writing music and being in bands. I love every aspect of it. I've been playing in bands since high school, or maybe just before... mostly death metal and heavy/progressive rock. I've also been getting into writing synth-based soundtrack-ish music for my own amusement, though I hope to really record some of this eventually.
I also like reading (mostly nonfiction world history or science related, though I'm in school now so read mostly about government/world affairs), catching a good movie, etc... pretty standard stuff. The bottom line for me is music. I have music running through my head most of the time.
Music
This list would be really long if I included everything, so I'll just throw out a few: Anathema, Kitaro, Dead Can Dance, J.S. Bach, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, old Metallica, Queensryche, Fates Warning, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Faith No More, The Doors, Bob Marley, Steve Vai, Hans Zimmer, Lisa Gerrard, Obituary, Sepultura, Entombed, Cynic, At the Gates, old In Flames, Death, My Dying Bride...
I'm currently listening to Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Fugazi, Biffy Clyro, Foo Fighters, Paramore, The Killers, Dinosaur jr, Coldplay, Death Cab for Cutie, Smashing Pumpkins and old Bim Skala Bim.... Strange mix, I know.
Movies
Some favorites would be Gladiator (in part because of the soundtrack), Seven, Tombstone, Rocky (I-IV), Indiana Jones (all), Bram Stoker's Dracula, True Romance, Immortal Beloved, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Enemy of the State (also a good soundtrack), Contact, The Last of the Mohicans, Thunderheart, and others. I'll include more as I think of them.
Television
I like South Park, Survivor, Real Time with Bill Maher, Man v. Wild, and Planet Earth (this show is stunning, I highly recommend the DVD series). I've been stuck on CNN lately too.
Hi Scott. I seem to be the only commentor here at this page of yours...
I saw where you guys were going up to Rochester NY on the 1st, weird because I'm going to be in your neck of the woods (DC) on the 1st to see Queensryche and Dream Theater and doubly weird because I'm basically from that area of New York. Have a great gig!
I spent all day Friday at ODU at the transfer student preview. As near as I can tell I spent $45 to listen to three briefings about campus life, a “free” coffee mug, and a lunch of institutional-grade lasagna. Then things got interesting…
Sorry for the delayed response! I greatly enjoyed your show and would love to play with you guys. Email me at hossfesn@gmail.com, I'm check that much more consistently.
Good here, thanks for the add! Hopefully Paul will get around to releasing some new As the Sea Parts material sometime this century! :-)
I also love all the Brave material. Paul got me hooked on the Arise from Thorns debut CD when it first came out, and I've bought a copy of every new AFT/Brave release since then. Excellent!!!
We're leaving for DC around 2PM today. I'll try to give you a call sometime tomorrow while we're up there. My leave's been approved and I've got my tickets. I've sent you my wife's cell number and where we're staying to your inbox here. See you soon, Scott. - Chip QNP
Well if it isn't one fifth of my favorite refrigerator magnet. Yes, it's still up there after many moves. I think about you guys everytime I go for ice cream.
For all of the philistines out there, Lewis Carroll was the pen name that Alice in Wonderland was written under. So it is one of those "Through the Looking Glass" type references. Good lord I need to find better references for my attempts at humor . . .
