Bio
Braxton Cook is a member of the Springbrook High School Jazz band, under the direction of Wyman O. Jones. He currently studies privately with Paul Carr, a nationally acclaimed saxophonist and instructor, and is a featured soloist in Paul Carr’s Jazz Academy Orchestra. Braxton is honored to have been one of only thirty high school musicians selected from a nationwide competition to participate in the 2009 Grammy Jazz Ensembles during the week of the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, California. Inspired by many jazz greats, he has had the incredible opportunity to play with Wynton Marsalis, Tim Warfield, John Osment, Paul Carr, Pepe Gonzalez and Thomas Newman. Braxton began playing the alto saxophone in the 5th grade and, committed to the preservation of jazz studies in the schools, has participated in the Springbrook High School "Everybody Can Play Jazz Summer Camp"(2005–2006) and the Paul Carr Jazz Camp (2007–2008). He has received a number of awards for his alto saxophone performances, including Superior ratings for County Solo and Ensemble Festivals (2005-2006) and State Solo and Ensemble Festivals (2005). He is the recipient of the 2008 Maryland Distinguished Scholar in the Arts award, the 2007 "Music in the Parks" Most Outstanding Soloist Award (Anaheim, CA) and the 2008 “Festivals of Music” Most Outstanding Soloist Award (Chicago, IL). He was also selected to the Montgomery County Honors Jazz Ensemble (2007 & 2008) and the Maryland All State Jazz Ensemble (2008). .. .. .. .. ......
