About me:
Welcome to our Myspace page! We are the McGregor Greyhound Welfare Center, located in Birmingham, Alabama at the Birmingham Race Course (BRC for short). We are here to help find homes for greyhounds who have retired from racing. Greyhounds make wonderful pets and are generally mild mannered.
Greyhound adoption is a long term commitment; they are a rather long-lived breed, with the average being between 10 to 14 years, many getting well past this age. Greyhounds must live indoors and should always be kept on leash or in a securely fenced area when outdoors. They can run very fast and enjoy it so much they will not notice they've gone too far until they are long, long away from home.
When indoors, though, they are usually a little on the lazy side, sometimes sleeping 14 to 18 hours a day. A greyhound is happiest laying beside you watching television! Although most greyhounds have never met other types of pets, they usually adjust quickly and get along well, even with smaller pets. They are very gentle, loving and highly intelligent. Even though the average retired racing greyhound is usually between 2 and 5 years old, they learn new things readily and usually excel in obedience, often graduating at the top of the class.
Retired greyhounds have so much to offer their new families, everything from unconditional love, to pet therapy, to hours of laughter from the class clowns! There are so many different personalities, greyhounds are almost like a living rainbow! Oh, we must not forget to warn you, they're like potato chips... it's hard to stop with just one! >.. ..
