Break it down Video

Biography

Break it down were formed in August 2008 by Paul Vari and Stuart Woodward who are ex members of John Peel favourites Older than Dirt. They quickly recruited original Older than Dirt singer Mike Fox as well as legendary Cerebros Exprimidos vocalist Jaime Cerebros, Toni Maltraste from notorious Spanish anarco punk band Bad Taste and drummer Pablo X.

Their sound is influenced by bands such as the Dead Kennedys, Suicidal Tendencies and Good Riddance.

Their first release was a critically acclaimed three song CD EP, released in June 2010. It has received extensive radio airplay in Spain and the USA and is available as a free download from the bands MySpace page. They are widely believed to have created a new genre in independent music; Anglo Hispanic Hardcore Punk.

They are currently working on their debut CD/LP expected to be released early 2011.

Stuart Woodward is also the singer/guitarist for the Southampton hardcore band Hummune.

Toni Maltraste still plays guitar for Bad Taste and is also the singer/guitarist for Punk rock and Roll band Midnight Trainer.

Those familiar with Older Than Dirt (from the early Nineties) will definitely hear some continuity in the Break It Down sound. Funnily enough, opening number “Get Up and Go” reminded me a of a slightly more metallic version of Brighton’s own Sleep, whilst the menacing “Heard it All Before” had me thinking Suicidal Tendencies - to the point I could visualise the singer stomping around the stage with a bandana tied tight around his head and steam pouring out of his ears! The lyrical sentiments of “Corporate Nightmare” lay in to those poor(!!) suckers that seek sanctuary in cash machines to feed a habit of blinkered consumerism. Again, the music is very tight and solid. All adds up to a most satisfactory debut!....Zonked Fanzine, pete.zonked@btinternet.com.... ........ ...... ..Biography:...... Some lovely EP reviews:

Break It Down feature a couple of members of Older Than Dirt and a couple of Spaniards from Malaga, and the result is powerful, hard hitting punk rock with some rock influences. “Corporate Nightmare” is the best track for me, it’s up beat and punishing from start to finish with some good lyrics. “Get Up And Go” starts pretty well and it’s nice to hear Paul’s familiar bass sound, but it suffers from a slightly clumsy second half which takes the edge off it for me. I like the lyrics to “Heard It All Before” and it does have some Older Than Dirt like bits, which are good to hear, but being the most rock of the three it’s the one I found harder to get into. However, this is a totally DIY punk band, this is all their own work and you can get it for the price of postage, or you can download it free, and that makes this better than most things I get sent for review. Check it out.

a short fanzine about rocking

3 songs of get the fuck out of my face hardcore punk!not to keen on vocal arrangements here although the vocals could be compared to joe doherty from jughead's revenge which isn't a bad thing since they're one of my favorite bands.it's not as bold as i'd like my hardcore to sound like gorilla biscuits or agnostic front but it is something i could definatley find myself listening to again.for fans of jughead's revenge and possibly the dead kennedys.
