Lament

The young men of the world
Are condemned to death.
They have been called up to die
For the crime of their fathers.

The young men of the world,
The growing, the ripening fruit,
Have been torn from their branches,
While the memory of the blossom
Is sweet in women's hearts;
They have been cast for a cruel purpose
Into the mashing-press and furnace.

The young men of the world
Look into each other's eyes,
And read there the same words:
Not yet! Not yet!
But soon perhaps, and perhaps certain.

The young men of the world
No longer possess the road;
The road possesses them.
They no longer inherit the earth:
The earth inherits them.
They are no longer the masters of fire:
Fire is their master;
They serve him, he destroys them.
They no longer rule the waters:
The genius of the seas
Has invented a new monster,
And they fly from its teeth.
They no longer breathe freely:
The genius of the air
Has contrived a new terror
That rends them into pieces.

The young men of the world
Are encompassed with death
He is all about them
In a circle of fire and bayonets.

Weep, weep, o women,
And old me break your hearts.

Hello Nikolas and Breaksea Caravel!

After I bought one of your CDs from Manuel (of Groundstaff), I just had to add your band :)
Too bad I realized that you live in Minneapolis after I visited my relatives there in August :(

Wow, I completely forgot about the show at Scallywag's last night, until we were walking into The Blue Nile to see Yawo and the Atimevu African percussion ensemble, and saw you playing out in the lot across the street - and you were playing my favorite song... I hope we get to see you again soon!

(ps - check your mail!)

I really love it when you guys play worship. Your music makes me want to yell and/or moan, as if there is something trying to come out of my soul, and it doesn't know how to escape except through my mouth.

More, please.

the "soldiers chant" from the last service we played it at (6/5/07) is up on my profile. take a listen to it. i heard myself hit my head on the microphone near the end of the song during "the war is already won" and someone laughed... perhaps that was me? haha... =)

"Perhaps, indeed, the better the gift we pray for, the more time is necessary for its arrival. To give us the spiritual gift we desire, God may have to begin far back in our spirit, in regions unknown to us, and do much work that we can be aware of only in the results; for our consciousness is to the extent of our being but as the flame of the volcano to the world-gulf whence it issues; in the gulf of our unknown being God works behind our consciousness. With His holy influence, with His own presence (the one thing for which most earnestly we cry) He may be approaching our consciousness from behind, coming forward through regions of our darkness into our light, long before we begin to be aware the He is answering our request--has answered it, and is visiting His child."

George MacDonald - "Man's Difficulty Concerning Prayer"

The man who loves most will love best. The man who throughly loves God and his neighbour is the only man who will love a woman ideally--who can love her with the love God thought of between them when he made man male and female. The man, I repeat, who loves God with his very life, and his neighbour as Christ loves him, is the man who alone is capable of grand, perfect, glorious love to any woman.
