Kristen Martin grew up in the piney woods of east Texas where she first discovered her talent and love for art. After moving to Oklahoma City at the beginning of high school, Kristen began developing her art more actively. Because of several eye opening life circumstances, she was led away from majoring in art in college. She graduated from Southern Nazarene University in 2007 with a Sociology degree. At the end of her SNU career, after walking away from her art, Kristen realized what a huge hole the absence of art in her life had created. She is currently working on building her art portfolio, taking a few classes and learning more about the art world. This will allow her to apply to a masters program in Art Therapy, combining her knowledge in the social service sector with her background in art.

My art work reflects the frailty of life around me and the emotion that is wrapped in the people I come in contact with. The series I am currently working on examines deterioration vs. regeneration, new beginnings and the search for stability and simplicity. My intention is to create art that will allow the viewer to see the value of a new beginning and have them question the value difference between the old and the new. I am experimenting with new mediums and will use any necessary to convey these concepts, such as oils, acrylics, graphite, paper, transfers and found objects.
