In the sometimes sugar-coated, self-imploded, down-loaded, blah, blah, blah of the musical world, listening to Brendas music is like going over to your best friends house for tea - she'll tell you about living in the bush, walking around the world, lost hunters, winter, and the stupidity of drilling for oil in ANWR.
Like many other Yukoners, Brenda, along with her husband and son, escaped from the southern concrete and urban sprawl to seek out a quiet life amongst Canada's tallest mountains. Thanks to technology, Brenda's debut recording was produced in the village of Haines Junction, Yukon near where she lives.
Brenda has achieved a top-forty song on Canadian radio, and although she lives "away" from the music scene, she continues to write and perform throughout the north.
Brenda's music blends folk with swing, rock, pop and even metal. Her songs are insightful, honest, and from Canada's far north.
"...an interesting blend of ballads, tales, and folk wisdom...that exudes honest, and wisdom from the first note." Bill Polonsky, What's Up Yukon
"If you want someone to watch, write down the name Brenda Berezan...imagine a voice as commanding as Natalie Merchant, and melodic like Sarah Harmer but with a style all her own." Kirsten Murphy, CBC North
hallo Brenda, Sorry it took me so long to write back, I've been on a bit of a vacation from email/myspace/thinking etc.. ahem. It was lovely to meet you in London, and I hope to see you again sometime soon... maybe your town next time! :) ~ karyn
