Brendan McCarthy was born in a bus. It was called the Starship.
It was the bus his family lived in the first few years of his life and it was parked in the mountains somewhere near Eugene, OR. It was while McCarthy's hippie parents were bouncing from commune to commune that an eager toe-headed songwriter was being born. Brendan McCarthy's colorful past is only one place where he draws inspiration from on his 2008 release “Yellow Roses”.
Growing up in the beautiful Pacific Northwest Brendan always knew that it wasn’t him choosing the music, it was the music that was choosing him. So when the chance came to team up with Grammy Award winning producer, Mitch Dane (Jars Of Clay, Bebo Norman), he didn’t hesitate to pack up and head to Nashville.
McCarthy's newest record gives you a little bit of everything. From “Picture Me” where McCarthy speaks of a close friend’s ugly divorce to the anthemic single, “Love, Love, Love” which poetically declares making a stand for love and goodness in the face of a discouraged world. But it’s in the title track, “Yellow Roses” where you really see the transparency and vulnerability of this songwriter. “Sometimes its difficult to write about a broken heart, a pain like that… a pain you think you will never forget," says McCarthy... "But then you remember there are so many others who have had the same thing, and I think there is something about that that gives you some freedom, it lets you know its going to be ok.”
Since the record released in early June, 2008, Brendan has kept busy touring and playing packed houses up and down the west coast. When he is not on stage, he is writing and working on his new projects. And for those who know McCarthy they would agree the best is yet to come.
