  • Bio

BRENDAN MC KINNEY”S BIO Brendan Mc Kinney was born in and raised just outside the city of Philadelphia. ... McKinney's upbringing didn't exactly encourage conformity. He grew up in a large Irish family immersed in a world of words and music: his father was well-known journalist/music critic Jack McKinney of the Philadelphia Daily News; his mother, Doris Kavanaugh McKinney, sang with legendary big band leader Vaughn Monroe, and was a popular Philadelphia area performer. Intermingle those powerful influences with the extensive rock n' roll album collections of his older brothers and sister, and it's easy to see why McKinney has chosen the road less traveled. " Everybody in my family played at least a little guitar and sang, " reflects Mc Kinney, " I was the last to pick it up, but I could never manage to put it back down." After many years as a prominent entertainer in the North Eastern region of the U.S., both as a solo artist and as lead vocalist and guitarist for bands such as: The Missionaries (rhythm & blues) and Driving Wheel (blues), Mc Kinney is recognized as a talented songwriter and powerful and exciting stage presence. He has played concerts and clubs in numerous venues throughout the east coast and currently lives and performs fulltime in Colorado. “When Mc Kinney is performing live, he constantly reaches for a new plateau, and is most compelling to watch when he interacts and improvises with his audience”, The Daddy Diary. He performs his original show regularly for audiences in Colorado, Pennsylvania, and California. Mc Kinney has also been successful at expanding into markets in all of Scandinavia (Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland) and parts of Europe (Germany, Austria and Greece to name a few). During this time he has had much success, and has sold thousands of his original CD's at his live shows. He currently has a loyal and ever increasing fan base both in the U.S. and overseas. McKinney's latest project, "My Dad‘s Car", is his best yet. It's a CD he recorded and co-produced with his band, The 99 Brown Dogs in Bergen, Norway. Most recently, McKinney has been turning heads in Nashville and his songs from "My Dad's Car" are stirring some interest in Hollywood. Brendan signed a contract with Nashville's Adroit Records, which included his song "Yeah, She Does" on its debut CD "Words and Music," a compilation of some of Music City's best songwriters. ....................From ..Adroit........ "I met Brendan at the Durango Songwriters Expo in Asheville, NC, when he came to a special Adroit Records listening session," recalls Tract. "All I can say is that he knocked me out from the first four bars of the first song he played for me. Brendan is exactly the kind of seriously talented songwriter we are interested in supporting." McKinney says he's honored to be included on "Words and Music" with so many talented song writers. Brendan adds, "It was Jim Tract's reaction and enthusiasm for my song that encouraged me to work with Adroit Records. It's a great lift to be on the roster." In a separate deal, McKinney signed with Riptide Music, a Los Angeles-based company that places songs in TV and film. The bluesy "You Got It Wrong" is scheduled to air on the TV show "Trust Me" Monday, March 23. In the Meantime, radio stations from San Fransico to Rochester, New York are playing his songs from "My Dad's Car."

Hi Brendan happy new year to you and your family.
Was just listening to your new songs and the "live at the Bluebird " tracks. Great stuff!! Would have liked to be there. Coming back to DK this year?I suppose you've heard Lurblæseren is closing for good in February. It'll probably turn in to a clothes shop. Unbelievable after all these years...:-(
