Bio
Brenna began piano lessons at age seven, but was soon drawn towards rock and roll after watching Tom Jones on television. Right around that time, she tried to put a group together by keeping her fourth grade classmates inside during recess, but it didn't really work. ......the 70's......Her first performance in a rock band was at the age of 14, when she put together an all-girl (except for the drummer) rock band called the "Billion Dollar Babies", for a variety show at Nestucca High School. They performed "Born To Be Wild" (none of the girls had heard the song before, they just found it in a guitar book and liked it), with their faces painted like the band Kiss. .. The annual tradition of an all-girl rock band continued through high school, except that Brenna learned to play the drums - so it could really be an all-girl band for the next three years - and sang lead vocals as well. The next three years the all-girl band performed covers of a Fleetwood Mac tune "Rhiannon" and a Steve Miller tune "Swingtown" and then a Brenna original "Food Fight" inspired by the popular movie of the time "Animal House". During high school she also joined a couple of rock groups (playing keys) performing at dances after ball games, making a few bucks, and performing covers of The Who, Jethro Tull, Led Zeppelin, Kiss, Boston, Neil Young, Ted Nugent, Yes, Rolling Stones, and Kansas. Through one of the members of these groups, Martin Hass, she was introduced to Stanley Clark, Chick Corea, and Al DiMeola and put together a jazz trio called "Panacea" auditioning for a spot in the lounge at ..The Inn at Otter Crest.. when she was just 16. ..Also, since her high school graduating class thought they were an absolutely unique group of people, they could not find a class song for their graduation ceremony that expressed their, uh, particular, qualities (?) precisely. A Brenna original "The Class of '79" was penned after school one evening and performed, as a duet with classmate Iona Stanton, at the graduation ceremony. (Yes, it was epic! lots of major 7 chords - reminiscent of Neil Sedaka's later 70's stuff and perhaps prescient of Christopher Cross' upcoming work...lol) .. the 80's are coming next... -
